They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. About Deletion of images
I think you have made a mistake in classifiyng some images of Jessica Alba on the French article with a copyright, since they both came from flickR and had a copyright, but a right to be used in wikipedia. It would be glad you correct your mistake by replacing the images and informing yourself about commons policies on licenses. Thanks, Martialist
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. Thank you. Siebrand 13:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Speedy vs regular deletion
Thanks for nominating that screencap for deletion. In future, though, you can tag blatant copyright infringements like that with {{Copyvio}}. Commons:Deletion requests is usually for discussable requests where the licensing information given (or anything else) is questionable rather than blatantly wrong. :) Cheers! Lewis Collard! - No problem. :) Thanks for pointing out the copyvio for us anyway. Lewis Collard! (talk, contribs, en.wp) 12:59, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi. As a result of your request at Commons talk:Flickr images/reviewers, I have added you to the reviewers list. Please see the instructions at Commons:Flickr images/reviewers and add {{User trusted}} to your userpage. You can ask me if you need any help. Cheers, giggy (:O) 23:58, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi
U have put it under deletion. Just here to tell u that the licensing will change in about 2 days as I have told the person who took the photo to change the licensing. SO please do not delete and wait. I'll tell u that as soon as possible.

Can u pl. undelete it, if and when the image at flickr's permission is changed.

- + I see you helping out with notifying user of copyvios etc. Can I ask when you do place a tag on a user page that you also place the {{Welcome}} template as well if they have not had one. It is a good multi lingual one which may help people to understand rather more (or get some help). Cheers --Herby talk thyme 13:38, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Лукашенко Chávez
Hello, mattbuck I have already redressed the problem from the flickr. I oblige myself never more to upload pictures from this unreliable site. The new picture showing the two presidents is from the official site of the president of Belarus and is to be freely distributable in Internet If you therefore find the suspicion of copyright status inappropriate, you should probably remove it, because the recent picture is not from flickr. Pay attention to copyright | Image:Moura Ana Flickr maximum quality.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. The Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content, that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk.
The file you added will soon be deleted. If you believe this image is not a copyright violation, please explain why on the image description page.

- If you, mattbuck, are a TRUSTED reviewer, but you were not capable of finding the Creative Commons copyright sign on this picture, then there is no wonder why things go wrong in this world. Wars 06:44, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- The image uses a by-nc-nd license (link), see Commons:Flickr images for what is and isn't allowed (in short, not all creative commons images are free for our purposes). Please refrain from personal attacks. Thanks. giggy (:O) 10:34, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

- That said, just a note...when doing flickr reviewing, if no source is given, you shouldn't tag it as a copyvio; just use {{subst:nsd}} or leave {{No source}} if it's already there. giggy (:O) 23:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

The-presets1.jpg and Shy-child1.jpg Deletion?!
I got the image from Flickr at the following URL: http://flickr.com/photos/slushpup/274115585/
The licensing is "by" some rights reserved. What's wrong with that; it's exactly one of the two allowable licenses allowed by the Wikimedia Commons. Please respond before you delete.
The same issue goes with Shy-child1.jpg. Here's the flickr URL: http://flickr.com/photos/simthom/559610340/
What's wrong with this licensing? What am I doing wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krlhc8 (talk • contribs)
- Sorry Matt, should have added a notice here after dealing with those images (actually thought I did, but must have forgotten) As Giggy wrote above, subst:nsd is a better call for Flickrtagged images with no url. Regards, Finn Rindahl 12:18, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Miriam Margolyes Image
You deleted an image of Miriam Margolyes that I uploaded for use on the actress' Wikipedia Article. The image was from Flickr that was licensed Creative Commons. I also specifically asked the author's permission. Here is the copyright holder's response (direct quote): "I confirm that I am happy for you to use this. In fact I'm pleased that you are. Thanks for getting in touch." As far as I can see I marked up the image correctly with description, author, license information, source etc. What have I not done to ensure the image doesn't get deleted? C.harrison1988 18:30, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi, Mattbuck. What was wrong with the about image? Wasn't it cc-by? Why it has been speed deleted? --Damiens.rf 18:33, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Damiens. The image was deleted because although it was licenced on flickr as CC-BY, the flickr image clearly had the watermark and alt test asserting that the image belonged to the Smithsonian, and so the flickr user did not have the rights to release. Hope this clears things up. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- That's not a common flickr user. That's public.resource.org /Carl Malamud. Please consider reading about the Smithsonian and copyright claims at http://public.resource.org/ and in the press. That image is indeed in the public domain. --Damiens.rf 18:44, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!
Mattbuck, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.
Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references....

Image deletion
Hello. You deleted Image:Kristin Davis at Berlin premiere.jpg. When the image was uploaded to commons by user:Tabercil, the flickr licensing was cc-sa. It was later changed. Did you read the image description page before you deleted the image? I'm trying to resolve it with the flickr user. Gimmetrow 11:14, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Matt, I'd suggest a restore and addition of {{Flickr-change-of-license}}. See Gimmetrow's edits in the deleted history. giggy (:O) 11:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- If the flickr user made an honest mistake with cc-sa, the flickr user can't be held to it. On the other hand, the license change may have been unintended, too. I was expecting the image to stick around while this was resolved. Gimmetrow 12:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Radwiki
please, don't delete images from radiopaedia. This site clearly informs that these images can be used on {attribution} license and these deletion requests from December were unjustified. With kindest regards, Filip em 18:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Copyvio?
Hi! Finn’s away and he recommended you if I had any questions, and now I do. ;) I was watching the Special:NewImages, when I found Image:IntellistarHD.JPG. Is it copyvio? The image is pretty blurry, I guess The Weather Channel’s TV shows aren’t free, but as I’ve seen images of the iPhone with a blur on the screen, I started to wonder. :S What do you think? — H92 (t · c · no) 22:17, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hi again! I came across Image:News-54.jpg. I think it looks kinda suspicious. Is there a/What’s the right template to put on the description page in cases like this one? — H92 (t · c · no) 22:54, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, never mind, ShakataGaNai marked it as copyvio. — H92 (t · c · no) 22:55, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Red links
I used to do the same thing, then I realized why so many language link templates have red links. These are done on purpose to encourage translations. No one likes red links, so it's good motivation. It also makes less work for us admins. We don't have to add a new a link every time a new one is made. (You'll see I re-added those, but only because I'm expecting a /he translation soon. Normally I would just leave it as it's not really a big a deal.) Cheers, Rocket000 23:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Roger Moore pic
Hi Matt, can you tell me who the uploader was for Image:Roger_Moore_2002.jpg? I wasn't aware that permission always had to be provided for a public person unless there is evidence that the image is a copyvio? From this crop Image:Roger Moore 2002.2.jpg it appears the original was uploaded to en.wikipedia? Gustav VH 10:52, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, the crop suggests it was originally uploaded to en.wikipedia - did the description state that? Gustav VH 23:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Did it give a link to the original file and mention the uploader? I checked the same filename on en.wikipedia and nothing is in the log (but maybe stuff gets deleted after a while?). Gustav VH 11:22, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

What are you doing?
Dear Mattbuck, self-proclaimed administrator. You have deleted the sign from West Bridgford School. Well done! It is impossible of course that WBS itself might own the copyright of its own sign, so what have you deleted it? Your action is purely petty, valueless, and malicious. This school website has been subject to repeated attacks for the last year by one or two individuals under the protection of anonymity . Wikipedia, as part of its policy of indolence, has done absolutely nothing to defend it. And you have done nothing positive either. Now we have people like you pissing about. If you want to help, help. What you are doing is making life bloody awful for the rest of us who see Wikipedia as something creative and valuable and not primarily yet another Internet space for anal retentives. Fifthmonarchy
- Replying on behalf of all administrators. I'm sure your school has copyright to its own sign. But because it does, unless you give commons explicit permission (see COM:OTRS) it is a copyright violation, and summarily deleted. Oh, and just for the record... Mattbuck isn't a "self-proclaimed administrator" the community elected him to such a position. --ShakataGaNai Talk 20:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
An excellent reply. There is no issue about the copyright of the sign, you just want to show that you have power. The fact remains that you administrators have done absolutely nothing to protect the WBS site from repeated vandalism from a presumed child - nothing at all - your only intervention is to make things more difficult. I can take a hint. If you people cannot be bothered to support people like me, I am off. It is just a waste of time. I leave Wikipedia in your anally-retentive hands, with page after page of stuff on modern celebrities and obscure musicians whilst some very important figures scarcely rate a mention. FifthMonarchy
