User talk:CJinoz
Changing this message for the first time in many months made me reflect on the changing role of the Commons in my Wiki life... I am on here way more frequently than I used to be :) I'm still getting to know the ropes a bit but I'm happy to have been able to contribute to the Commons and the generosity of people releasing images always makes me smile :D
Feel free to leave me a message here, or at my Wikipedia talk page. Cheers.
Welcome!
Hello, CJinoz, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- First steps - will tell you everything you need to know about how to upload, what licenses are OK and what information to include in your image summary
- Babel guide - Commons is truly international, here's how to handle some multilingual issues
- Commons FAQ - has some answers to common Commons questions
- The Community Portal - help us organise and improve our files
- A Gallery of your images - please correct any that are untagged or orphans (put them in a category)
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Commoner! If you haven't already done so, you might also want to open an account on a Wikipedia in your preferred language, or one of the other Wikimedia projects. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date. If you have any questions, drop a note on the village pump, the Help desk, or contact an administrator. I look forward to your contributions!
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 22:01, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

OTRS permissions
[edit]I'm about to reply to all your messages at once, so please don't mind the upcoming flood of e-mails :) ~ Riana ⁂ 08:49, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
When I deleted the image, it had the following description (taken from the deleted history):
 flickrreview
And it had an "all rights reserved" notice at Flickr. No pending OTRS ticket notice, as you can see, so it seemed as a blatant copyvio to me. --Dodo 16:10, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
OTRS permissions
[edit]Hm ok. I'll take it to the other OTRS admin, because I disagree that those permissions are valid. Sorry for the inconvenience, -- Bryan (talk to me) 09:38, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is for example that you ask for "I was wondering whether you might consider releasing the following photo under the GFDL" and they answer "I release the following image to be used by you in the Wikimedia Commons." That is absolutely not the same as "I release this image under the terms of the GFDL." This really implies a "Wikimedia-only" permission, which we cannot accept. As a solution, the other OTRS admin, Riana, is contacting the Flickr users herself to get a more specific permission. -- Bryan (talk to me) 11:06, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

- You were missing a "u" at the end of the filename. I've added a note about that to my instructions.
- However, be aware that the copyright for that photo is uncertain. It's an Acme photo - see http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/res/220_acme.html. --dave pape 16:39, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Molly_Hazlett.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Molly_Hazlett.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).
Unless the permission information is given, the image may be speedy deleted after seven days. Thank you. -Nard the Bard 06:59, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Miss Kansas Teen USA 2008 semi-finalists.png
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Miss Kansas Teen USA 2008 semi-finalists.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - The explanation for the above can be seen here. The fact that I may have the wrong template should also be explained there as that is what the advice appears to be. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- I may get something wrong. However neither image was available on Flickr when I checked. I have better things to do with my time than place tags on images that can be found I assure you. --Herby talk thyme 13:38, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- Neither image was available when you checked? That's funny, because they were available before you tagged them, and only two days after you tagged them, yep, there they were. Did you try clicking on the link in the source title? There's nothing I dislike more than taggers too slack to check what they're doing is correct. Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:15, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Better source request for Image:Sara Brooks USS Alexandria.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Sara Brooks USS Alexandria.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the help desk or me at my talkpage. Thank you. High Contrast (talk) 08:12, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Miss America titleholders
[edit]hello,
People should be categorized in their own category. But you can create a gallery with all the beauty queens, so you can also classify them properly and provide the name of the girls and years of election for each photo. Okki (talk) 03:27, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- And finally, I see that you have already begun to take care of it. Categories and galleries have not the same goal. Okki (talk) 03:32, 28 May 2010 (UTC) ps: sorry for my really poor english.
Please don't blank pages
[edit]Hi PageantUpdater,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Category:Miss USA delegates on Commons. I asume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use type reason here and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. Thanks again. 14:05, 5 June 2010 (UTC)–Krinkletalk

File:Hawkins-GrandWaterfront-crop.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File tagging File:Denise Quinones.png
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Denise Quinones.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Denise Quinones.png ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
