Really??? Yesterday??? Couldn't find it, is there any way to see it on an "archive" link or something like that?
Hi Sabine, please add a source to that one. Thanks, --Flominator 19:17, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Thalasseus_flock.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Thalasseus_flock.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Aulon arch sugarloaf image for display in museum
[edit]Hello. I work in the Exhibits Department at the California Academy of Sciences, a non-profit museum in San Francisco, CA. We have selected your image of aulon arch sugarloaf for display in our new museum.
Are you Duncan Wright, the photographer who took this image?
We would display it in a slideshow in an exhibition, not in a textbook (so no front covers or back covers) and not on a website. As a result, we can’t link to your license terms. Would you still grant us permission to display it as long as we attribute the work to you? If so, please specify what credit recognition you require.
We are on a tight production schedule and would appreciate a response as soon are you are able. Thank you very much!
Cheers, Annette
- The image is indeed mine, and I release it for you to use in whichever form you wish. Sabine's Sunbird (talk) 00:52, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Sulawesi-hawk eagle.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Sulawesi-hawk eagle.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).

Sourced
[edit]My concern was that the flickr image itself was sourced to a deadlink here [1] so I am unsure what the copyright is of that site. MBisanz talk 09:01, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ahh ok, that explains it, I've removed the npd tag since the image is free, thanks for the clarification. MBisanz talk 20:06, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
File:(Cyclarhis gujanensis).jpg
[edit]Hi Sabine, in my opinion this bird is misidentified. He is not a Cyclarhis gujanensis. Take a look at his eyes, beck and size.
Zimbres (talk) 13:30, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, but the identification is OK. I saw this picture at the site www.aves.brasil.nom.br which very reliable.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:10, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Thank You for the Wikipedia Pictures
[edit]Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware pictures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Anous_stolidus_nesting_cropped.JPG and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Anous_minutus.JPG). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:
http://www.freeenglishsite.com/
I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm
2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm
3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm
Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.
Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely, Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Reminder: Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2016 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2016 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear Sabine's Sunbird,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
--Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 08:43, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

cropped image
[edit]Hey, I had a productive chat with you years ago, hope this notice finds you well. I wanted to notify you that I used your image upload at File:Platycercus icterotis1 crop.jpg with a tighten up to the subject of the taxobox, but thought it was a nicer portrait before. Nevertheless, any critique you can offer on this rosella's depiction and description elsewhere would be most welcome. Regards, cygnis insignis 15:16, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
