User talk:Smartech~commonswiki
Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be usefull to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitely.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted.
For more Information, have a look at Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 17:22, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Please stop uploading ESA images. ESA images are for noncommercial purposes only even if you have downloaded them from a NASA website. On the NASA webiste you can read for thos specific images of Huygens probe "credit ESA/Univ. of Arizona/NASA". So those images are no Public domain. Thank you. Arnomane 08:02, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hi, could you please go to Image:13-11-16.jpg and specify which license you wanted the image under? Right now it says "GFPL", which is not a license. silsor 18:57, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
ESA images (Image:Phobos hires mars express.jpg)
[edit]Please don't upload ESA images on Commons. They are restricted to noncommercial usage only what is against Commons policy. Several of them were already removed or in removal stage. See Commons:Deletion requests for more details. --EugeneZelenko 05:00, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Non-Commercial use
[edit]Hi - please not that the commons do not allow images licensed for non-commercial use only. Thus, I have put the following images up for deletion:
- Image:Ssc2004-05b medium.jpg
- Image:Trans-Neptunian object 2003 VB12.Sedna.orbit comparisons.jpg
- Image:56755main sedna-comp-330-264.jpg

More information
[edit]Hi Smartech. Please provide more information about Image:Tvashtar Catena.jpg. In particular, what does it depict? And where did you get the picture from (a link is best)? Thanks, Dbenbenn 19:43, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- And could we have a link for Image:Europa g1 true.jpg, please? Dbenbenn 20:42, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Tzarbo1.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Tzarbo1.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{Cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. 88.134.45.6 02:50, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Solar_sys_orbits.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Smartech. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Smartech~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
