Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you. Siebrand 22:10, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Great Job!
[edit]Hey you did a great job, I have that problem in rendering Inkscape's png into svg format, I will try your tip about it. Well Matt, have a wonderfull year 2008! OK.

no thanks for deleting this image after giving me 7 days' warning, over Christmas. I was the author of this map. I uploaded it at a time when it was still good enough to say "I made it". I am not sure if I still keep a copy anywhere. Can you have it undeleted please? It is rather important to several Wikipedia articles, and I certainly won't spend another half day re-drawing it. --Dbachmann 09:30, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't delete it, and I can't undelete it, because I'm not an admin on Commons. I tagged it in good faith, and didn't mean to "ambush" you. However, it's okay, because it can be undeleted. I've started a section at Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current_requests#Image:Iron_Age_Italy.png; you may wish to comment. Sorry for the trouble. Superm401 - Talk 15:07, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
PD-old and adminship
[edit]Hello. I have seen you adding PD-old-100 while PD-old is not clear enough. Speaking of translated tags, if you can go through all images tagged PD-old, I will consider it easier to simply move the translated tags and change "70" to "100". In addition, PD-Art will assume PD-old if nothing else specified. That will require attentions as well.
While seeing your commitment to make license tags clearer, are you interested in becoming an administrator here? If yes, I will nominate you when you are ready. You have the choice to accept or decline my offer.--Jusjih 20:16, 21 January 2008 (UTC) (administering 11 Wiki sites)
- I have replied at Template_talk:PD-old#Additional_templates to explain why I consider PD-old-75 and PD-old-80 needed.--Jusjih 01:39, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Quality Image Promotion

Hello, Superm401. What's wrong with that image? I specified who created this work. Why do you think copyright status is unclear? At the bottom of source page you can see "доступно в соответствии с GNU Free Documentation License" message, which means "available according to GNU Free Documentation License". I uploaded several images from that site, and I don't want them to be deleted. --Dstary 12:29, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
ARS trademark
[edit]I saw you marked a couple of the ARS logos as trademarked... out of curiosity, where do you see that? I did an online search at www.uspto.gov before (and did another just now), and did not see any registered trademark. I'm just wondering if there is somewhere better I should be searching. Thanks :-) Carl Lindberg 05:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough on the common-law trademark. Although, the 50th anniversary was in 2003, so I don't think they really use that much anymore, and it may have lapsed. I think folks used it for the license template since it looks nicer than their usual logo ;-) I normally just use that template for registered trademarks though, since as you say, just about any logo is a common-law trademark, so I'm not sure that always needs specifying (doesn't hurt though). US government seals/logos are additionally protected by non-copyright and non-trademark law, so I tend to use the insignia template on those, unless they are registered trademarks too in which case I use both. Thanks for replying though. Carl Lindberg 05:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi! I'm bit surprised by your adding a PD-Art license to this picture: the object depicted here is not a two-dimensional work of art, so Bridgeman vs. Corel would not apply. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 17:53, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: {category}
[edit]The {category} parameter is a just a convention used to make template auto-categorizing optional. Inputing an empty string prevents the template from adding a tagged page to any categories. This is very useful for template documentation. Like on COM:T. You may be familiar with Tlrow, this makes use of it. You can also do it manually as I showed above. Take for example: {default categories}. If you assign anything (usually nothing) to category (i.e. ) this will over ride any default categories the template normally assigns. Rocket000 03:20, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm... not that I know of, but that's not a bad idea. I'm guess it would be fairly simple to do. The only issue I see it that the majority of templates that don't make use of it already are license tags, which means most of them are heavily used and having a bot edit them all in a short amount of time would send the job queue skyrocketing. I usually only add it when I'm cleaning out a category and there are pages that don't belong there (because a certain template was used on them as an example). Fortunately, nearly all our maintenance templates have it. As you can see on COM:T, there's only one category it's not suppose to be in (something that can't be solve with {category}). PD-URAA
[edit]Re this edit: since when is 1928 < 1923?? Lupo 14:58, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- Because I've read the book (and then some more about Mr. Spelterini). He showed his photos before in many presentations, using a projector. But the first publication (distribution of copies to the general public) was this 1928 bi-lingual German-French book, published in Switzerland. Lupo 16:05, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- The book, BTW, makes no mention of his photos having appeared in newspapers before that, and in all my studies about him I have not found one shred of evidence that even just hinted at an earlier publication. Lupo 16:08, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Another CC Template?
[edit]Hi, after a few talks on the theme on COM:VP, and after being convinced on advantages of "CC-by" towards "Attribution", I started to design a more intelligent user-editable CC-template (well, the developer+programming-work would be done by Rocket000).
I now learn that CC and Attribution ARE the same, such template therefore would not be of any use.
In case you're interested, I please invite you to talk on User talk:WeHaWoe/TestSite#Looks like bad luck for the project 8( for kind of brainstorming. Best, Wolfgang, WeHaWoe 09:16, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Notice of namespace-rename "Image" -> "File"
[edit]Dear user, the MediaWiki developers recently announced that the "Image:" namespace is going to be renamed to "File:". "Image:" will remain an alias. The canonical namespace name wgCanonicalNamespace will change from "Image" to "File".
I noticed that you use wgCanonicalNamespace in either your monobook.js page or a JavaScript file in your userspace (check this list).
Please check and replace all occurrences of

with
wgNamespaceNumber == 6

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 18:01, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Mattflaschen/common.js
[edit]Hi Mattflaschen, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.
Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:
- You edited User:Mattflaschen/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
- Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
- To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
