Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:15, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Category:Hiking_in_Nagorno-Karabakh has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

- Hi, I think there must be a confusion here.. I am an organizer of the event. More detailed I have responded there. Thank you. --vacio 10:12, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Vacio, you seem to be involved in an edit war related Armenia and Azerbaijan. We don't like edit wars here at Commons so to put an end to this: Any user caught removing templates related to Armenia and/or Azerbaijan will get blocked. Feel free to add templates, translations, categories, etc, but don't remove things from the other country. Thanks for you cooperation and please share this message with other involved users. Multichill (talk) 16:48, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- FWIW, I am sympathetic to the claim on the noticeboard that you are the organizer of a WLM which is named with Nagorno-Karabakh, and as such have a valid claim. Still, it is a hugely lame edit war, and you've shown poor conflict resolution skills. If, after you've tried everything, you still can't come to an agreement, you can always ask for community input on one of the noticeboards (where, of course, the majority of us will once again proceed to point out that it is a lame dispute, but at least you will get consensus). I will revert you move because this breaks the whole bot system. That sucks in the middle of Wiki Loves Monuments. I'd suggest you do these kind of changes after September. Multichill (talk) 14:42, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Blocked
[edit]I asked you if you wanted both of you to be blocked, or if you wanted to try to make peace and edit constructively. Your response was to do nothing to alleviate the situation, and to ask for a block. This answered my question - you wanted a block, so I've obliged.
Please note, you haven't technically edit warred since your warning. But we are no more in the business of wikilawyering than Wikipedia is, so I don't particularly care, given that you have continued with your polemic attitude, which is the heart of what's getting you blocked.
When you return, please edit constructively and focus on ways that you can better the content on Commons for all parties, no matter which ethnic group they relate to in Nagorno-Karabakh. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:38, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- OK, it looks like I've made a terribly embarrassing mistake: I mixed you up with Liltik22. So the above statement doesn't completely make sense. However, I stand by the fact that you are editing with a polemic attitude and that it's wildly inappropriate on Commons. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:46, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

The subject page has appeared as a new gallery. Since it contains no images, it cannot remain in gallery space. Ordinarily I would delete it on sight. However, since it obviously took some effort to create, I ask if perhaps it should be a user subpage of the bot or of you? . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 15:49, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi James. I don't need it anymore. Can you please delete it? (Actually I was trying to make a list on my local drive, but apparently that didn't work). --vacio 16:35, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sure. Next time, use something like User:Vaciobot/wlmlist. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 16:48, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in Armenia not ready
[edit]Hello Vacio, Earlier you showed interest in organizing Wiki Loves Monuments in Armenia. Checking today it seems that there is no organisation in Armenia and hte landing page seems not to be up-to-date. This means I can't set up a CentralNotice banner for Armenia now.
If you can fix this issue in the coming days, you can ask me to activate the CentralNotice for Armenia. Romaine (talk) 19:39, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
- PS: If it is decided to not organize Wiki Loves Monuments in Armenia, please let me know as well. Thanks Romaine (talk) 19:39, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Armenian Wikipedia gender distribution
[edit]Hello,
I found your file on gender distribution in the Armenian Wikipedia. I'm writing a scientific paper on the gender gap on Wikipedia right now. People were speculating that having the use of Wikipedia taught in schools and universities would narrow the gender gap. In Armenia there is a lot of collaboration with schools. So I wanted to see whether there is official data on whether the percentage of female editors is really higher. In the description of the file you said, that you looked at the list of active users but couldn't identify some of them. So I'm not sure about the percentage as female users might be more likely to socialize and communicate in person then male, so without knowing about the users that you didn't know I wouldn't be able to use the 37.7% percent. Yeah would be great if you had a link to official data or more explanation on the graphic. --Earlyspatz (talk) 15:46, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Copyright status: File:Artsakh within Armenian Kingdom.PNG
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Artsakh within Armenian Kingdom.PNG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
