Sweet Miso Sardine Rice Bowl

My Sardine rice bowl recipes, such as ‘Garlic Sardines Rice Bowl’, seem to be very popular. I am happy to know many people somewhere in the world are cooking them. This is another easy rice bowl that I often cook with canned Sardines. I recommend to use a lighter coloured Miso for this dish.

Ingredients

  1. 1 can (110 g) Sardines in Springwater *drained
  2. 1 large Spring Onion *sliced diagonally
  3. 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil *OR Oil of your choice
  4. 1 serving warm Cooked Rice
  5. Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) OR Ground Chilli *optional
  6. Miso Sauce
  7. 1 tablespoon Miso *White Miso recommended
  8. 1 tablespoon Sake (Rice Wine) *OR Mirin for sweeter flavour
  9. 1 & 1/2 teaspoons (1/2 tablespoon) Sugar
  10. 1 teaspoon Grated Ginger

Cooking Instructions

    Make Miso Sauce by mixing all ingredients in a small bowl.

    Place drained Sardines, Spring Onion and Sesame Oil in a small frying pan, heat over medium heat, and cook for a minute.

    Add the Sauce and simmer over a low heat for a minute, and let all combined well.

    Half fill a bowl with warm Cooked Rice and cover it with the Sardine mixture. Sprinkle with some Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) OR Ground Chilli, and enjoy.
