An Array of Mark-Making Moments in Ink
A week of drawing patterns & making marks in ink, Throwing in a twist + hypothesis wrapped in an experiment: how does water alter|morph patterns? So I set about drawing repeating patterns knowing in advance that I would alter them — I like seeing how art materials react in different situations.
So I drew this series of 7 in Pilot Iroshizuku Take-Sumi ink w/dip pen and waited about 15 minutes, then spritzed 💦 a portion of each with with water and the ink moved however it wanted to move! I like the way they look like indigo fabric. The 100% imperfect index card dividers absorb the water in wonky ways and just do their own thing. I’m just along for the ride.
Capped it all off with a one-staple collage. Including a fragment of torn mark-making card. Love using stuff I make as collage elements.
Cutting up the mark-making experiments and putting them back together in collage grids.
