- El Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW), o Manual dels ocells del món és una obra de 16 volums publicada en anglès per Lynx Edicions editada i publicada íntegrament a Barcelona, que pretén ser un compendi de totes les espècies d'ocells del món. L'obra, que té subscriptors a més de 160 països, consta de 16 volums. El primer volum es va publicar el 1992. Els setze volums de la col·lecció descriuen i il·lustren de manera exhaustiva per primera vegada, una classe completa del regne animal, amb les prop de 10.000 espècies d'ocells que existeixen al nostre planeta. Els seus editors són Josep del Hoyo, , , Jordi Sargatal i Ramon Mascort. Fins ara hi han participat més de 202 prestigiosos especialistes i 35 il·lustradors d'uns 40 països, a més de 834 fotògrafs. És una de les principals obres de referència ornitològica a escala mundial, aclamada per la crítica i pel públic especialitzat. L'any 1992, el primer volum fou distingit amb el premi Bird Book of the Year, que atorga anualment la revista . L'any següent, el mateix volum fou considerat com a per la revista . Segons The Quarterly Review of Biology: «Cal lloar els editors per realitzar un volum que és molt informatiu, fàcil per llegir i amb tipografia molt curada.» Quan l'any 2002 es va publicar el volum 7 de la sèrie va rebre altre cop la distinció com a Best Bird Book of the Year. Tot i que es tracta d'una obra dirigida principalment a la comunitat científica, la crítica ha assenyalat que el seu format facilita molt la consulta a qualsevol persona interessada en el món dels ocells. L'acollida que el projecte ha tingut, tant als mitjans científics com a quasi totes les publicacions especialitzades, ha portat a considerar l'HBW com a l'obra líder de l'ornitologia mundial. - كتيب طيور العالم هو سلسلة متعددة الإصدارات أنتجته دار النشر الإسبانية لنكس إيديشنس بالشراكة مع جمعية الطيور العالمية. وهو أول كتيّب يغطي كل الأنواع المعروفة الحيّة من الطيور. حرّر السلسلة كلٌ من ، ، ، . صدرت من هذه السلسلة 16 مجلداً؛ حيث تمّ إيضاح جميع أنواع طائفة معينة من المملكة الحيوانية وتصويرها بالتفصيل في عملٍ واحد للمرة الأولى على الإطلاق. تمّ تجميع كل مجلد حسب العائلة مع مقدّمة توضيحية عن كلٍ منها. تبع ذلك، الأنواع الفردية (التصنيف، الأنواع الفرعية، التوزيع، الملاحظات الوصفية، الموائل، الغذاء والتغذية، التكاثر، التحركات، الوضع وحالة الحفظ، الببليوغرافيا). إضافة لذلك، تضمّنت جميع المجلدات باستثناء المجلدين الأول والثاني مقالات حول موضوع محدّد في علم الطيور. ساهم في هذا المشروع أكثر من 200 مختص شهير و35 رساماً من 40 دولةً، إضافة لـ834 مصوراً من أنحاء العالم. منذ ظهور المجلد الأول عام 1992، تلقّت السلسلة العديد من الجوائز الدولية. اختير المجلد الأول ككتاب طيور العام في مجلات ، وحصل المجلد الخامس على جائزة لقب الأكاديمي المتميز من قبل وهي مجلة تصدر عن جمعية المكتبات الأمريكية. أما المجلد السابع فقد اختير ككتاب طيور العام في من قبل مجلتي بيردووتش وطيور بريطانية إضافة إلى حصوله على جائزة أفضل كتاب مرجعي للطيور عام 2002. مُنح المجلد 8 أيضاً تميزيات بعد عام في عام 2003. المجلدات ضخمة يزن كلٌ منها حوالي 4 كغم وطوله 32 سم. بدأت لنكس إيديشنس عام 2002 مشروعاً مكملاً لكتيب طيور العالم، الذي يهدف إلى نشر المعرفة حول الطيور الحية في العالم، وهذا المشروع هو «مجموعة الطيور على الإنترنت»، وهو عبارة عن مكتبة صوتية ومرئية يمكن الوصول إليها مجاناً، لكن ترخيصها ليس حراً؛ حيث يهدف هذا المشروع إلى نشر مقاطع فيديو وصور وتسجيلات صوتية تظهر الجوانب البيولوجية المنوعة (كالأنواع الفرعية والريش والتغذية والتكاثر وغير ذلك) لكل الأنواع. المشروع غير ربحي، ترفده مواد يزوّدها أكثر من مائة مساهم من جميع أنحاء العالم. في بدايات 2013، أصدرت «إصدارات لانيكس» قاعدة بيانات على الإنترنت HBW Alive، وتتضمن مقدمات المجلدات والعائلات وتحديثات لأعداد الأنواع من جميع المجلدات ال17 الصادرة إلى الآن. منذ إطلاقها، تمت مراجعة وتحديث التصنيف كاملا مرتين، وذلك بعد نشر الإصدارين الأولين من HBW and BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World. يوفر موقع «كتيب طيور العالم الحية» أيضاً وصولاً مجانياً لـ«مفتاح الأسماء العلمية في علم الطيور». Es wird beim spanischen Verlagshaus Lynx Edicions in Barcelona veröffentlicht. Die Herausgeber sind Josep del Hoyo, , Jordi Sargatal und David A. Christie. Die Buchreihe wurde ab 1992 publiziert und war mit dem Erscheinen des 17. Bandes (Supplementband) abgeschlossen. Der systematische Aufbau der Reihe folgt den taxonomischen Erkenntnissen, die bei Fertigstellung der Manuskripte aktuell anerkannt sind. - The Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW) is a multi-volume series produced by the Spanish publishing house Lynx Edicions in partnership with BirdLife International. It is the first handbook to cover every known living species of bird. The series was edited by , , and . All 16 volumes have been published. For the first time an animal class will have all the species illustrated and treated in detail in a single work. This has not been done before for any other group in the animal kingdom. Material in each volume is grouped first by family, with an introductory article on each family; this is followed by individual species accounts (taxonomy, subspecies and distribution, descriptive notes, habitat, food and feeding, breeding, movements, status and conservation, bibliography). In addition, all volumes except the first and second contain an essay on a particular ornithological theme. More than 200 renowned specialists and 35 illustrators (including Toni Llobet, Hilary Burn, Chris Rose and H. Douglas Pratt) from more than 40 countries have contributed to the project up to now, as well as 834 photographers from all over the world. Since the first volume appeared in 1992, the series has received various international awards. The first volume was selected as Bird Book of the Year by the magazines Birdwatch and British Birds, and the fifth volume was recognised as Outstanding Academic Title by Choice Magazine, the American Library Association magazine. The seventh volume, as well as being named Bird Book of the Year by Birdwatch and British Birds, also received the distinction of Best Bird Reference Book in the 2002 This same distinction was also awarded to Volume 8 a year later in 2003. Individual volumes are large, measuring 32 by 25 centimetres (12.6 by 9.8 in), and weighing between 4 and 4.6 kilograms (8.8 and 10.1 lb); it has been commented in a review that "fork-lift truck book" would be a more appropriate title. As a complement to the Handbook of the Birds of the World and with the ultimate goal of disseminating knowledge about the world's avifauna, in 2002 Lynx Edicions started the Internet Bird Collection (IBC). It is a free-access, but not free-licensed, on-line audiovisual library of the world's birds with the aim of posting videos, photos and sound recordings showing a variety of biological aspects (e.g. subspecies, plumages, feeding, breeding, etc.) for every species. It is a non-profit endeavour fuelled by material from more than one hundred contributors from around the world. In early 2013, Lynx Edicions launched the online database HBW Alive, which includes the volume and family introductions and updated species accounts from all 17 published HBW volumes. Since its launch, the taxonomy has been thoroughly revised and updated twice (once for non-passerines and once for passerines), following the publication of the two volumes of the HBW and BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World. Opublikowanych zostało 16 tomów oraz suplement „Special Volume: New Species and Global Index”. Kolejne woluminy były wydawane w odstępach rocznych, a seria została skompletowana wraz z wydaniem 16 tomu w 2011 roku. Po opublikowaniu tomu 16, ptaki, jako pierwsza gromada zwierząt zostały w tak szczegółowy sposób przedstawione w jednym wydaniu książkowym. Suplement wydany w 2013 roku zawiera opis 84 gatunków nowo odkrytych lub opisanych na nowo. Materiał w każdym woluminie został pogrupowany w pierwszej kolejności według rodzin ptaków. Każdy gatunek jest prezentowany według ustalonego schematu, tj. systematyka, podgatunki, występowanie geograficzne, ogólny opis, zajmowane siedliska, preferowany pokarm, migracje, metody ochrony gatunku oraz bibliografia. Ponadto, wszystkie tomy z wyjątkiem pierwszego i drugiego, zawierają szczegółowy opis konkretnego ornitologicznego tematu. Dotychczas w tym projekcie wzięło udział ponad 200 wybitnych specjalistów z dziedziny ornitologii i 35 ilustratorów z ponad 40 krajów, a także 834 fotografów z całego świata. Pierwszy tom ukazał się w 1992 roku. Seria otrzymała wiele międzynarodowych nagród. Pierwszy tom został wybrany książką roku z dziedziny ornitologii przez magazyny „” i „”. Natomiast piąty tom został uznany za najlepszy tytuł naukowy przez „” i Stowarzyszenie Bibliotek Amerykańskich. Siódmy tom, został wyróżniony przez magazyny „Birdwatch” i „British Birds” w 2002 roku, jako książka roku o ptakach. Identyczne wyróżnienie przyznano także tomowi 8 rok później – w 2003 roku. Rozmiary poszczególnych tomów to 32 na 25 cm o wadze od 4,0 do 4,6 kg. Uzupełnieniem Handbook of the Birds of the World i ostatecznym celem jest upowszechnianie wiedzy o świecie ptaków. W 2002 roku rozpoczął projekt Internet Bird Collection (IBC). Jest to wolny dostęp do audiowizualnej biblioteki on-line, na której zamieszczone są opisy poszczególnych gatunków, zdjęcia, filmy wideo i zapisy wydawanych przez ptaki dźwięków. IBC zgromadził ponad 300 000 zdjęć reprezentujących ponad 96% gatunków ptaków istniejących na całym świecie, ponad 20 000 nagrań audio oraz ponad 100 000 filmów reprezentujących około 85% gatunków ptaków. Na początku 2020 roku IBC stał się częścią prowadzonej przez – placówkę Uniwersytetu Cornella. Довідник є першим виданням, що охоплює всі сучасні види птахів. Складається з 16 основних томів, виданих протягом 1992—2011 рр., та декількох додатків.
