- L'Union internationale de biochimie et de biologie moléculaire (en anglais, International union for biochemistry and molecular biology ou IUBMB) est une Organisation non gouvernementale internationale qui fédère les sociétés savantes nationales dans le domaine de la biochimie et de la biologie moléculaire. Elle a été créée en 1955 sous le nom d'Union internationale de biochimie. Ses missions sont en particulier de promouvoir l'enseignement de la biochimie et de la biologie moléculaire. Elle organise aussi un congrès international de manière triennale. En 2008, l'IUBMB regroupait 77 pays membres, elle fait partie du Conseil international pour la science (ICSU). l'IUBMB a une activité importante en matière de définition de standards et de nomenclatures, parfois en collaboration avec l'IUPAC. Costituita nel 1955 come International Union of Biochemistry, essa nel 2005 contava 72 stati membri. È inoltre un membro del Consiglio Internazionale per le Scienze (ICSU). Lo scopo che la IUBMB si prefigge è quello di sostenere lo sviluppo e l'avanzamento di biochimica e biologia molecolare, considerate come il fondamento originale di ogni applicazione biomedica a servizio della società. Focalizza l'attenzione in modo particolare nelle aree in cui la ricerca è meno sviluppata, promuovendo la collaborazione e la cooperazione con i paesi più sviluppati. La IUBMB promuove anche la messa a punto di norme e linee guida di carattere etico per la ricerca. Altra finalità dell'Unione è la standardizzazione di metodologie, nomenclatura e simbologia, svolta spesso in collaborazione con la International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). In particolare, è responsabile della classificazione EC utilizzata per gli enzimi. IUBMB grundades 1955 som International Union of Biochemistry efter mönster av en mycket äldre motsvarande organisation inom kemi: IUPAC. Unionen hade 77 medlemsländer 2008. Sverige är representerad genom (SFBM) IUBMB arrangerar en triennal kongress: Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, och sponsar andra konferenser, symposier, utbildningsföretag och föreläsningar. Organisationen publicerar standarder för enzymnomenklatur och annan biokemisk nomenklatur, i vissa fall tillsammans med systerorganisationen IUPAC.
