Jean Chrétien's tenure as prime minister of Canada occurred from November 4, 1993, to December 12, 2003. He was sworn in as prime minister after he led his Liberal Party to a majority government in the 1993 federal election. Chrétien led the Liberals to two additional majorities in 1997 and 2000. After serving as prime minister for over a decade, Chrétien was succeeded by his finance minister, Paul Martin, on December 12, 2003.
