The Shrine Merger Policy (神社合, じんじゃごうし) is a historical policy of the Empire of Japan which sought to merge shrines. It is said that the number of shrines will be reduced by enshrining the of multiple shrines in one shrine, or by relocating them to the Setsumatsusha of one shrine and eliminating the other shrines. It mainly refers to those performed at the end of the Meiji era .
