Inspiration

I love AI and I wanted to merge AI generated clothing into the snapchat app. I believe AI images as infinite as they can be, offer a huge possibility to make new awesome experiences. I also got inspired in the slogan of the contest "Create the future Now". I wanted to imagine a long distance future where space travel is a day to day activity. Also I got inspired in an old TV show called "Automan", it was about some kind of software that got alive and it had an awesome outfit. Finally, I got inspired on current and future trends, like wearables, that are going to be used more and more in the future.

What it does

The lens has 5 different futuristic glowing vests with wearables to try on, all of them made with the help of AI.

How we built it

I used the Garment Transfer plugin available with Lens Studio. Images were created using AI stable diffusion at Knight Cafe ( https://creator.nightcafe.studio/) which allows the image that I create to be used for any purpose, commercial and not commercial. Also, images were edited to fit on a template (I downloaded the image from the transfer garment plugin), and used the face and hands from the template as a guide to size the garment properly. Some images were also edited with AI to take out the background, and manually to make arms bigger or wider, or having longer sleeves to fit to the template. A carrousel was used to put the 5 images so the user could choose garments. Finally, the lens is configured to adapt to the mobile phone, meaning if the phone doesn't have lot of resources (as mine), it will default to take a picture, if better device is available, it will render as a video.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, I was testing the plugin with a T-shirt which included a marble face on it. Unfortunately, the plugin recognized it as a face so the render was the T-shirt with a hole in the middle. Then I changed the approach to futuristic vests, unfortunately the plugin cuts down the lower part as the recognizing template is for T-shirts or Sweaters, not Vests. Nothing to do there, but hopefully a new version of this awesome plugin will recognize Vests as well as T-shirts. It's to mention, that support was really helpful and kind. Also, i don't really have a powerful laptop, so the process was a little bit slow, so I was really frustrated not being able to do a better experience and I almost don't participate, but I didn't want to miss out, so I did what I could with my tools at hand. I couldn't test the video feature, as my phone is not powerful as well, so that's my leap of faith.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Well, I'm proud of participating with this simple, yet interesting approach of AI generated vest images that I believe, are quite unique and give the user another out-of-this-world experience. Also, for not giving up and terminating this project.

What we learned

I learnt that AI and lenses go hand in hand to make awesome experiences, and that a lot can be done with little things.

What's next for Space suit

If I had a better laptop, I could add face wearables and cool moving backgrounds, or more interactivity, or adding custom wearables like futuristic arm-pads
