The digital twin as data type in the Internet of Things

    Until 2015 Roland Heidel was head of an R&D department for industrial automation and for Standards and Regulations of two divisions of Siemens AG. He was amongst other things technical leader of the fieldbus project for PROFIBUS and several EU projects for automation technology including product data based Engineering. He has a thirty years’ experience in international standardization. From 2004 he was Chairman of the IEC Standardization Committee IEC TC65 „Industrial Process Measurement and Control“ for 12 years and until 2015 convener of the Industrie 4.0 working group 2 and its counterpart in the Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie (ZVEI). In these working groups he participated in the development of the model for Industrie 4.0 “Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) and was the editor of DIN SPEC 91345 and its international follower IEC PAS 63088:2017. Currently he is convener of the IEC working group TC 65 WG23 (Framework for Smart Manufacturing). He is co-author of a book on Industrie 4.0 of the Industrie 4.0 Standardization Council which is available in German, English, Chinese and Korean language. Since August 2015 he runs his own company “Roland Heidel Kommunikationslösungen e.K.”.

Abstract

Digitalization is discussed nearly everywhere in the world. This article describes the basics of digitalization which were originally developed for Industry. However the concept can also be used in our daily life as a blue-print of the infrastructure for the Internet of Things and Services (IoTS) which is shown in this article.

Zusammenfassung

Die Digitalisierung des täglichen Lebens wird weltweit diskutiert. Erste Maßnahmen sind in verschiedenen Ländern bereits ergriffen. In Deutschland läuft ein wichtiges Projekt unter dem Namen “Industrie 4.0”, das international “Smart Manufacturing” genannt wird. Die darin entwickelten Konzepte können leicht auf das digitale Leben in allen Bereichen des Lebens als “Internet der Dinge und Dienste” ausgedehnt werden. Die dafür erforderliche technische Infrastruktur, dessen Kern der sog. “Digitale Zwilling” bildet, wird in diesem Artikel beschrieben.
