Donald Trump picks Congressman Matt Gaetz for Attorney General

President-elect Donald Trump on November 14 named firebrand Republican US Representative Matt Gaetz to be his nominee for attorney general. Gaetz has a history of loudly criticizing the Justice Department and repeating conspiracy theories about it. He accused current US Attorney General Merrick Garland of working behind the scenes in Trump's New York hush-money case. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Republican-majority Senate. Trump's inner circle has described the attorney general as the most important member of the administration. Gaetz like Trump has been the subject of government investigations. The Department of Justice reportedly conducted an investigation as well but decided not to charge him.
