Citations for the Anglo-Saxon section

edit

I have removed a citation for the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle entry that linked to a estate agents website with no relevance to the text.

I also think the citation for this sentence may need replacing:
Bromsgrove is first documented in the early 9th century as Bremesgraf.[1]
The reference leads to a surname website that does not provide sources for its information. --Dædalus (talk) 18:21, 18 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sorry but Bromsgrove is not part of the West Midlands.

In response to the above post. I assume you mean, Bromsgrove is not in the West Midlands metropolitan county. Bromsgrove is in Worcestershire, one of the six counties [Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire] in the accepted West Midlands region, it is not in the implied county of West Midlands. With its oriental food and its home cooking. Its has been awarded the Good Food award, five times. 1988, 1994-95, 2002 and 2004. Its been rated top 20 take aways in the country. Considering the other twelve takeways are base in the city of London. Top five foods which been rated by the food standard agency judges are: 1.) Crispy Aromatic Duck 2.) Chicken Curry 3.) Block of text removed from page. Does not cite sources and seems to be untrue. Placed here for discussion T.roome 13:43, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

There may be altogether too much listing of pubs and night venues, and their frequent name changes Pubs should only have mentions for notability, such as being listed buildings, or many times the winner of a Best Pub in Britain awardetc., otherwise it should preferably suffice to say that the town is well catered for with pubs and restaurants offering British and foreign menus; Wiki is not a tourist guide, and such information could be regarded as padding or POV. See the Worcestershire project banner above to enlist help in improving this article. --Kudpung (talk) 19:43, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Background

edit

Bromsgrove currently has a fast growing population with its excellent links to the A38 that cuts through the town, the M5 motorway bordering the west side and the M42 motorway starting at the north of the town. It is now a dormitory town for Birmingham. T.roome 18:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Joyce Carpenter

edit

Just how notable is she? Apart from being small, did she do anything special? Otherwise, the advice is to try not turn the WP into a Guinness Book of Records. Citation tag added.Kudpung (talk) 10:23, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

What did Robert Wadlow "do" except keep growing and he has his own page,as does Jane Bunford.Joyce Carpenter was a Girl Guide leader (probably the world`s smallest),drove a specially adapted Mini and was notable enough for Lord Snowdon to make a TV documentary about her in 1971 and yes,she did appear in several editions of Guinness.I know about her because I lived 200 yards from her for twenty years.Enough for you Mr.Kudpung?94.196.34.26 (talk) 00:27, 7 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just to make it very clear, she was the size of a two year old child, this would severely restrict any job. She suffered from one of the rarest forms of dwarfism known to medical science, perhaps someone could create a page for her so she is not forgotten.94.196.7.39 (talk) 14:16, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Between you then, anonymous users, you could probably create the page she deserves. What's stopping you?--Kudpung (talk) 14:05, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Don`t know how and both above users the same person despite different numbers,I am not computer literate enough to understand why.Over to you,Mr.Kudpung. (By the way my name is not anonymous.it`s Nick) 94.196.218.251 (talk) 18:50, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the invitation (however patronising) but since I do not aspire to the position of Deus Stannum I must regretfully decline.94.196.210.79 (talk) 22:47, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I’ve sort of resolved this by including her with a reference to a recent reshowing of the interview at a Disability film festival. I guess its reshowing shows the interview had some impact if it was worth viewing thirty years after it was broadcast.Jim Killock (talk) 20:01, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

All references to Joyce Carpenter have been gratuitously removed but the article about Jane Bunford remains. if references to someone are valid because she was very tall, why is reference to someone very small not equally valid? Is Wikipedia being sizeist? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.205.242.36 (talk) 15:11, 11 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
