Wondering how to edit this U.S. City Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Cities standards might help.

The City of Clovis is today a prosperous and peaceful community of over 80,000 residents, with excellent schools and a thriving business community. Does this seem neccessary in an encyclopedia article? If I wanted to hear this I would visit Clovis' chamber of commerce.

History

edit

I'd like to add the following to the History section: --MPerel Nov 1 2004 11:54

Clovis became incorporated on February 27, 1912. City limits were bounded by Minnewawa, Barstow, Sunnyside, and Sierra Avenues, one square mile. This section of the city is known today as “Old Town Clovis.”

I'd also like to add information about the town name, early history about the Yokuts Indians, Spanish exploration in the early 1800s responsible for some of the local geographic names, Mexican sovereignty, then United States acquisition. Also there is a lot of interesting history about the migration of diverse peoples that came to Clovis, the various events and motivations that brought them here. --MPerel Nov 1 2004 12:59

Schools

edit

Suggestion to move information about Clovis Unified School District into its own article--it seems a bit more appropriate there than on the city's article, especially since CUSD extends into northeast Fresno. --67.181.169.238 06:23, 17 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Clovis and the KKK

edit

Over the years, I've heard several times that Clovis has a significant number of KKK members, reputedly the most in the state/region/Nation. For example, an MIT student describing his hometown of Clovis, makes the claim that "Clovis is kind of cute, in a weird extremely right-wing, 2nd highest population of KKK members in the nation, valley girl kind of way." I'm not sure if this is simply apocryphal, reflecting perceptions of the conservative, affluent and ethnically homogenous population of Clovis or if it has some kernel of truth. Wikipedia's article on the KKK estimates that there are only about 3,000 members nationwide, so even a tiny portion of the Clovis population would likely suffice. The Southern Poverty Law Center identifies two active hate groups in the area[1], but they are Neo-Nazis, not KKK, and they're actually in Fresno. Just recently, the California Skinheads held an event in Coarsegold that reportedly drew at least 70 people and possibly more (Source: Fresno Bee). This article recounts a KKK rally on the Fresno State campus in 1997, consisting of only 17 people. I haven't been able to find any sources which identify where these people are from; it's entirely possible that the KKK members holding the rally came from out of town. So, whether it merits inclusion in this article or not, I'm curious to know if anyone has any evidence that can support or refute the claim. -Anþony 23:18, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

If there are only 70 skinheads in a state the size of California, that seems like good news. – 50.92.120.214 (talk) 17:39, 16 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kevin Federline Reference?

edit

Is it necessary for the Clovis page to reference Federline twice? In the first section of the entry it says that he is one of the notable residents, and yet it does not mention other notable references. Furthermore, the article about him does not mention Clovis, saying only that he was born in Fresno and that he now resides in Hollywood Hills. He may have lived in Clovis at some point, I am not certain, but is he really so notable that an encyclopedia entry about the city of Clovis should mention him?

History needs revamp

edit

The history section is mostly taken word for word from the local Rotary web site. https://clovisrotaryclub.com/History%20of%20Clovis.html Dr vulpes (talk) 21:39, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
