editFrom stub "Cyaxeres": Cyaxeres is the name of an ancient king of the kingdom of medea, which existed in the western parts of modern day Iran. Cyaxeres was the third emperor of the medean nation. He was monarch during the medean war with the kingdom of Lydia which is mentioned by Herodutus in his Histories. He was also sovereign during the 25 year occupation of medea by the Scythians.

editThis was brought to my attention - there was no discussion and a search on Google books showed only a handful of hits on "Cyaxares the Great" - and a couple of those were 'great' as in 'great-grandfather'. Google scholar only showed 2 hits and they were both "Cyaxares, the great-grandfather of...". Dougweller (talk) 19:58, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
Impossible timeline should check references
editThe article says that sometime in 625 BC is when Cyaxares I invited the Scythians to the banquet. Knowing that Astyages went up against Cyrus in 550, and with Herodotus giving 35 and 40 years to Astyages and Cyaxares I respectively, 625 would have been the year that the Scythians defeated the Medes according to Herodotus.
All I'm saying is that I don't think it very likely that an author would have said that the Scythians we're slain in 625 BC, so I am guessing that there is a discrepancy between the source cited and what is writen in the article. All we can know is that Cyaxares ended their rule sometime between 625 and 614. The references should be checked and other references should be consulted because I am quite sure the article is in error. 2600:1004:B065:F1BD:BC36:CCAB:15E9:4B4A (talk) 20:47, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
