Discussion
editI removed the description "affluent" -- strikes me as a jdugment. Yes, the village overall wealthier than it was when we moved here several decades ago, but there are lots more condos now, still apartments on Waukegan Road, and a median *family* income of $107,194 doesn't strike me as providing Lake Forest/Kennilworth/etc. level of creature comforts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.145.18.240 (talk) 22:42, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
The information about the Cherry Pit is pretty much promotional material and should not appear in the article. Shsilver 15:27, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Add to the comment about it is no longer called the Cherry Pit. It is now call Kevin's Place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Les.levy (talk • contribs) 02:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Montessori Schools
editUser:Realpro63 keeps adding superfluous information about the Montessori with multiple links to the same site which is a general page for Montessori and without any indication of why this would be anything other than advertising or why these private schools in Deerfield are any more noteworthy than any of the other private and religious schools located in Deerfield. The links provided do not indicate anything specific about the Deerfield schools. Shsilver (talk) 23:40, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- I also prefer the version that simply states "… including two Montessori schools." A reliable, third-party reference would be appropriate. ✤ JonHarder talk 12:37, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Walgreen's Photo
editI've removed the request for a Walgreen's Corporate Headquarters photo. There is nothing iconic or remarkable about Walgreen's Corporate Headquarters and I don't believe adding a picture of it would enhance the article in any way, certainly not more than adding a photo of any other company headquartered in Deerfield (such as Cosi, Baxter, Takeda, Siemens Healthcare, etc.)Shsilver (talk) 03:32, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I am going to add it back. I am not requesting the photo because I have a belief it will be beautiful or ornate. I am doing so because Walgreens corporation inherently needs to have a photo of its headquarters. Every company needs a headquarters photo. I would like for the request to stay up until it gets fulfilled.
- For this article, the best way to illustrate the "economy" section is to have photographs of the offices of the city's top employers. If any of the following: "Cosi, Baxter, Takeda, Siemens Healthcare, etc." employ significant numbers of people in Deerfield, their offices should be photographed too.
- If the Walgreens logo is on a roadway entrance sign, but not on the building itself (or if the campus is gated and it is not possible to get a view of the building), photograph the entrance sign. For example, File:ConocoPhilipsHQ.JPG
- WhisperToMe (talk) 02:08, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- I don't recall saying anything about "beautiful or ornate," just that it wouldn't enhance the article.
- Your first point has nothing to do with this article.
- The second point is debatable. Not sure how many people Walgreen's Corporate employs in Deerfield. I imagine it is less than Takeda or Baxter, just based on the size of their buildings.
- Not gated, it is located in a small office park about a mile down the road from me. Just don't feel it is necessary to have a picture of it on the Deerfield page (no argument about one on the Walgreen's page). Shsilver (talk) 18:54, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Okay. I looked for articles about major employers in Deerfield and found something from 1987.
- I'm going to ask for a resource request on it so I can get the full article. But from Google News I found how many people Sara Lee employed when it was there. I'll see if I can find anything about Walgreens.
- WhisperToMe (talk) 23:35, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- This source:
- Miller, James P. "Strong medicine at Walgreens: 1,000 cuts." Chicago Tribune. January 9, 2009. News 34.
- States: "About 500 of those cuts will occur at the 5200 -person headquarters. Walgreens has a total workforce of about 237000."
- So assuming those cuts happened, Walgreens employs about 4,700 at its HQ.
- I also found figures for Takeda in 2003, when it was still based in Lincolnshire. Then, Takeda employed about 1,600. As of 2003 Baxter employed 1,000 in all of Deerfield. It sounds like Walgreens is a much larger employer, if employment figures stayed constant.

Use of the term 'Village'
editThe definition of this word in almost every dictionary describes something that is completely UNLIKE Deerfield, Illinois. Deerfield is a suburb, not a village. I appreciate that there is an extremely technical definition of a village which relates to local government, but the first sentence of the article is NOT the appropriate place to use that definition. The technicalities of the government powers and structure belongs WAAAAYY further down. Saying Deerfield is a village is confusing and wrong. The first sentence is meant to clearly describe the topic. I'd love to see anyone try to defend the use of that word in the opening sentence. 61.69.52.10 (talk) 03:13, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- It is, quite literally, a village. This is asinine. 2600:1700:B3E:C800:29CF:72C9:8B9:762A (talk) 17:33, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Inaccurate characterization of pre-colonial inhabitants
editCitation 4, which supports the description of the area being inhabited by the "Bodéwadmiakiwen (Potawatomi), Myaamia (Miami), Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Peoria, and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Oglala Sioux) Native Americans," which is inaccurate. No Sioux people ever lived near Lake Michigan. It was primarily Potawatomi and Miami territory. 2600:1700:B3E:C800:29CF:72C9:8B9:762A (talk) 17:35, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Little Rock North
editIt took me awhile to understand this reference. The article was nowhere to be found, closest I came to finding it was from the Johannesburg University library in SA. So that others might escape from the same fate of endless seeking, here’s help from the Little Rock dot gov site, ”In September 1957, the eyes of the world were on Little Rock as nine (9) African-American students tried to integrate Little Rock Central High. Governor Orval Faubus attempted to delay the start by deploying the National Guard. Eventually, President Dwight Eisenhower federalized the National Guard and replaced them with members of the 101st Airborne Division of the Army. On September 25, 1957, the nine (9) African-American students entered the school and began their school year.” Annyaka (talk) 01:14, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
