which crown exactly?

edit
The network, which is currently branded ITV1 by ITV plc, has vied with the British Broadcasting Corporation's BBC One for the status of the UK's most watched channel since the 1950s (a crown it only lost in 2005).

Does the last phrase mean that ITV1 has outdrawn BBC1 every year except 2005? Or that BBC1 has outdrawn ITV1 every year except 2005? Or that either BBC1 or ITV1 has been on top every year except 2005, when some other channel won? Or something else? —Tamfang (talk) 22:19, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

And considering some of the early TV sets may have been single channel only plus it took some years to establish ITV franchises in all regions I'd be surprised if ITV was beating the BBC in its first few years. Timrollpickering (talk) 14:47, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I noticed something

edit

Hey, I noticed that the "Diagram displaying consolidation of ITV franchisees into ITV plc" is incorrect, as it says that Carlton existed prior to 1993 and was the only name for the company that served London, when in fact Carlton was the second company to serve London, beginning its service after its predecessor, Thames Television in 1993. I don't know how to edit the table, though, so can someone pleaaase do it? Thanks! Sup3rG33k08 (talk) 09:02, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for spotting that; I've updated the table.
By the way, Carlton was tbe third London weekday franchisee, the first being Associated-Rediffusion.  Dr Greg  talk  11:51, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ah yep, thank you! Sup3rG33k08 (talk) 22:38, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

False take-over claims

edit

Various IPs keeping adding unsourced claims that ITV plc has been acquired by Paramount. These claims are patently false as ITV plc is still listed on the London Stock Exchange. See here. Although ITV plc has licensing agreements in place with Paramount, I can find no reliable source that suggests any takeover bid from Paramount to acquire ITV plc is either imminent or under consideration. Dormskirk (talk) 12:23, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I note that false takeover claims have now been posted to this article on 13 occasions since the start of the year. I also note that there are similar claims circulating on investor chat rooms and that such speculation could be driving the recent sharp increase in the company's share price. It should be noted that, "knowingly or recklessly spreading false or misleading information about a qualifying investment through the media" may be regarded as market abuse. I have previously made a request for page protection in the hope of trying to stop this. Dormskirk (talk) 18:00, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah this is a total nightmare, other than for financial gain I can see no other reason people are making these false edits. I find it very unlikely that Paramount would be interested in acquiring ITV and even if they were I doubt they could get it past regulators as they already own C5. I am in full agreement that page protection would probably be the best shout to prevent this. Professional Adriazeri (talk) 21:57, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Probably just vandalism from one person who enjoys making stuff up about films and television, from the looks of User:Terminater66890 and User:Formula1boy5. Article protection requested again. Belbury (talk) 18:49, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes I would agree Belbury. ITV isn't owned or operated by a particular company but by licensees. Paramount own Channel 5 so for them to also own ITV would be a conflict of interest. Also BritBox UK ceased to exist in April. It's now fully integrated into ITVX. I'll have a look at article protection but if you've also reported to RFPP I'll also leave it there for another admin to review as I'm connected with the subject.-- 5 albert square (talk) 20:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
