mehandi27.com is trying to be placed on the top of all by some IPs. Should that link too be considered as spam and be removed from the article 59.92.54.250 (talk) 09:29, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Inaccuracy on how henna colours

edit

Changed this sentence:

It is usually drawn on the hands and feet, where the designs will last the longest because it only penetrates the dead cells of the stratum corneum.

Henna colours because the colorant lawsone binds itself to the keratin of the skin. Hands and feet have thicker skin, and thus higher amounts of keratin, resulting in a darker colour. Further reference besides the lawsone page is this site, unfortunately in German. Penguin attie 19:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Spam - How to stop spam?

edit

More than developing this article, atleast 3 people are pasting links to Adsense site in an aim to promote the same. Any suggestion, to automate the process of stopping spam is most welcome A Soosai Prakash (talk) 00:30, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

== Please Discuss Is It A SPAM !! == I love you forever baybee you know who you are, shree x. The problem is this web contain some google adsense adds on them, is google adsense some wrong thing! or is it illegel? there is no wikipedia policy that pages with google adsense are not allowed on wikipedia, or is there any ! the links i pasted were not spam, but due to the vergalirity of the powers wikipedia have provided some of its administrators these links always get blocked or removed. Thats not fair and seems like super powers always veto the right policies so do these admins, but please visit yourself this link and by GOD go through it and tell me if it is unrelated, false, disturbing, botpage or any other deciving page. (The SPAM defination in wikipedia policy). Do not wast your time and mine, have a look and set your reply here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Asifsra (talkcontribs) 04:56, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removed Indian reference

edit

I removed the line "The tradition of Henna started in India in the early days when bridal decoration was scarce" as it can never be true.

Indian aborigins - or Dravidians are dark in color and they are the native Indians. Henna, when applied on a darker skin never adds any beauty to it and people will not be using it hence I dispute the above line. I have not seen any Dravidian giving importance to henna in their festivals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Asprakash (talkcontribs) 00:34, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I changed the edits which was speaking about inaccuracy in naming Mehandi. As the article itself contained the phrase, I changed the position and removed the Highlight given by STR1977 A Soosai Prakash (talk) 04:07, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removed languages

edit

If everyone starts pasting their language in the top of the article then the article will have names or headings and nothing else. There seems to be competition in placing their own language first or on the Top.

If contributors are interested to speak about the article on their language, let them contribute the full article in their own language in appropriate wiki and not in the one in ENGLISH. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Asprakash (talkcontribs) 12:11, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Longevity of Mehndi?

edit

I came to this page trying to find out how long Mehndi decorations last- how long they stay if left alone, how hard they are to wash/scrub off, if they sweat off, or any information about the longevity of the marks. This seems to me like pretty relevant information on a temporary skin mark. Can anyone who knows a lot about the subject add this?

Why separate article, while there is one for Henna?

edit

Better merge this article on Mehndi with Henna as both deals and speaks the same.

Again the HennaPage guy is busy pasting his links here too!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.81.99 (talk) 00:46, 18 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why is he doing that? Wetter88 (talk) 15:32, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

History?

edit

Anyone want to find some reliable sources on its history? --Ronz (talk) 15:14, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please... It is a good idea but a really long job to do. Wetter88 (talk) 15:34, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

"The use of mehndi ... is described in the earliest Hindu Vedic ritual books." I doubt the veracity of this statement. Is there a reference for it? BV Swami (talk) 04:51, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

References and more

edit

The first reference link doesn't work. The other links aren't from the most reliable sources, and there isn't any variation in the type of sources used (all are websites.) Most of the facts discussed seem to be from personal knowledge rather than a reliable source, or the references simply aren't listed. In addition, the language and grammar in the article is somewhat awkward and often incorrect. There is also one image that does not have a proper caption. Reliable source question

edit

http://www.hennapage.com/henna/encyclopedia/index.html

Hennapage.com is a reliable source to use because the owner of the henna page, Catherine Cartwright-Jones, Ph.D., has completed her master's and doctoral dissertation on Henna in the department of geography at Kent State University. She has lectured at many colleges, universities, and museums. Catherine has been a consultant on Henna at the National Botanical gardens in Washington DC and the Royal Botanical Gardens in London. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajmer0927 (talkcontribs) 15:38, 9 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

It's a self published site, has been actively spammed by the site owner in the past, and attempts to funnel users to its associated web store. MrOllie (talk) 16:24, 9 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Youtube isn't any better, and Cartwright-Jones's dissertation does not meet WP:MEDRS, which is our minimum standard for making claims about health on Wikipedia. Mainstream medical thinking is that the ingredients in black henna are rather less harmful than she makes out - it is an exceedingly common hair dye, after all.
