Why was my edit reverted? On Sergeant Benton's page they have his full name, why not here?--213.122.163.46 13:25, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- I don't think it's ever been conclusively established on screen that Mike is short for Michael. I could be wrong. John Benton, however, has been established. --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 13:33, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- Well, yes, if you count "Wartime" as "on screen". Isn't that the source for "John Benton"?
- Also, while I support the reversion on the grounds of accuracy to on-screen canon, what else would Mike be short for? Michel? Michaelangelo? Micro-brain? :^) —Josiah Rowe 23:17, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- He could have simply been named 'Mike'. My dad's given name is Tony, for example, but the bank are always sending him letters addressed to 'Mr Anthony Hayes', presumably thinking they're being polite... Angmering 23:41, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- Fair enough! —Josiah Rowe 00:19, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, Paul beat me to that. :) And just to add, Wartime aside, at least there's a basis for mentioning it. If you want to take "John" out of the lead paragraph, but leave it in the later paragraph. I'm not objecting. --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 00:30, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
- Michael was verified as his name in the Past Doctor Adventures book Deep Blue so it could be mentioned later on like on Sergeant Benton's page.--GingerM 16:21, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
List of appearances
editLike the entries for Sergeant Benton and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, the list of appearances for Mike Yates may be incomplete, because I don't have access to all the short story collections and comics, so I can't confirm whether an appearance by "UNIT" includes Yates or not. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 20:18, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Doesn't a Brigadier Yates appear in New Series 1 in teh episode involving the pig crashed into the Palace of Westminster? There is a short news report showing senior military and inteligence firues entering No. 10, and either the newsreader or the doctor points out a Brigadier Yates of UNIT. He is then killed along with everyone else who attended the meeting.
Recall U.N.I.T.: The Great T-Bag Mystery
editYou haven’t mentioned the stage-play "Recall U.N.I.T.", which Richard Franklin wrote and staged in Edinburgh, with John Levene as Benton, the voice of Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, and John Scott Martin as the chief Dalek... Jock123 (talk) 14:08, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
"...was dressed up to go on a date with Mike..."
editI'm not sure how to add a citation for the dialogue instead being "dolled up to go on a night on the town with Mike Yates", which doesn't necessarily imply a date, beyond the line being mildly famous among the fandom. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 10:03, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
