The last gate is to be checked out – O-Chul and Lien already went to Kraagor's Gate in the North.[4]
Roy was dead; his archon is doing something for him when he's gone?[5]
Favours from Shojo: Miko has lost her purse containing a message from Durkon's dwarven homeland. (Durkon had written a letter to be sent to the High Priest of Thor, asking to be allowed to return and see his grandparents; the former High Priest died and the new one would allow him to come home, but the Creature in the Darkness ate the letter. His grandfather is already dead.)[6]
Xykon will be defeated within seven weeks from the end of Don't Split the Party.[7]
The Linear Guild are actually the pawns of the IIFC.[8]
There are nine sides to this conflict, one of which will become known in the fifth book.
Roy Greenhilt — Has yet to really kill Xykon and fulfill his father's Blood Oath of Vengeance.
Haley Starshine — Her father Ian Starshine is leading the resistance against Tarquin. She has been left by Kyran, Rachel, her Mom, basically "everyone good and pure who gets close to her".
Vaarsuvius (and Blackwing) — Unsolved: his/her gender; and (s)he accepted a Soul Splice deal, getting the powers of Ganonron, Terror of a Thousand Planes; Haera Bloodsoak, Destroyer of Hope; and Jepthon the Unholy, Span of Hatred, in return for agreeing to be spliced her-/himself at a later time for the same amount of time – 3:06 for one of them, 20:35 for the other two (one of the those has lapsed already, keeping him from keeping the OotS from destroying Girard's Gate).[9][10] His/her mate filed for divorce.[11]
Elan the Bard — Past partially unknown. Fate of his father Tarquin.[12]
Durkon Thundershield — The next time he returns home, "death and destruction for all" will be the result … Is now a vampire? Evil vampire has plans with pilgrims?
Belkar Bitterleaf — Past almost completely unknown.
Serini Toormuck (female halfling rogue) — Wrote the diary and recorded the gates' locations.
Lirian (female elf druid) — Soulbound in a black gem carried by Xykon.
Elven Forest Gate — Burned by Redcloak. Location of Mijung's death.
Kraagor (male dwarf barbarian) — Killed while the rift in the "snowlands" was sealed.
icelands Gate — Built atop Kraagor's tomb by Serini, filled with lots of monsters. Located in the far north, according to strip #300.
Girard Draketooth (male human illusionist/tracker) — Has been dead for quite some time.
Western Desert Gate — Deliberately destroyed by Roy.
Soon Kim (male human paladin from Azure City) — His wife, Mijung, was killed by the Snarl. He died of old age after transferring command of the Sapphire Guard and Azure City.
Azure City Gate — Destroyed by Miko misguidedly.
Dorukan (male human mage) — Soulbound by Xykon, too.
Redmountain Hills Gate — Destroyed by Elan accidentally.
Redcloak (the "Crimson Mantle") — The deity he serves (the "Dark One"[15]) will become an issue, especially in relation to freeing the Snarl; his deity is furthermore well-known to the Sapphire Guard, as they are mortal enemies.[16] Redcloack has Xykon's phylactery and switched it with a fake.[17] The ritual will not control the Snarl, but make him do the Dark One's bidding.
Creature in the Darkness — To come out of the dark.
Right-Eye — Redcloak's brother, killed by Redcloak.
The Shadowdancer and "Kaboom" Redaxe — They thought that Roy was the King of Nowhere (which he was claiming to be at that time) and wanted to kill him; they failed, however. They subsequently jumped into the shadows and haven't been seen since.
