Guideline and policy news

• Following a discussion, the discussion-only period proposal that went for a trial to refine the requests for adminship (RfA) process has been discontinued.
• Following a request for comment, Administrator recall is adopted as a policy.

Technical news

• Mass deletions done with the Nuke tool now have the 'Nuke' tag. This change will make reviewing and analyzing deletions performed with the tool easier. T366068

Arbitration

• RoySmith, Barkeep49 and Cyberpower678 have been appointed to the Electoral Commission for the 2024 Arbitration Committee Elections. ThadeusOfNazereth and Dr vulpes are reserve commissioners.
• Eligible editors are invited to self-nominate from 3 November 2024 until 12 November 2024 to stand in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections.
• The Arbitration Committee is seeking volunteers for roles such as clerks, access to the COI queue, checkuser, and oversight.

Miscellaneous

• An unreferenced articles backlog drive is happening in November 2024 to reduce the backlog of articles tagged with {{Unreferenced}}. You can help reduce the backlog by adding citations to these articles. Sign up to participate!

Hello, Daniel,

I was really disappointed to see in the Admin's Newsletter that you were no longer an administrator. We really rely on your level-headedness in AFDLand and you were very prolific in your discussion closures. But I was just browsing the ARBCOM candidates' list, saw your entry where you state this is a temporary situation so this really a message saying "I'm sad, no, never mind, I'm glad!" I think it's good to take a break when real-life activites are adding a lot os stress to your life but I welcome your return, whenever that happens. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 22:21, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi Liz, thanks for the message. Yes, only temporary - I will admit I was feeling a little burned out overall, but the main driving factor was my relative unavailability until mid-January due to travel & Australian summer (it is wedding season down here...). Question for article

Hey Daniel,

my name is Ben Dreyfuss. I’m a journalist. I’m writing an article about Wikipedia and for the lede I’m mentioning this discussion that you and some other editors had earlier this year that led to deleting the pages about me and my sister. The article isn’t me whining about how I don’t have a page but it’s the hook for a different topic relating to Wikipedia editing culture. I was hoping I might be able to ask you some questions about the general process you guys use for this stuff. Nothing “gotcha” or anything. But I don’t know any Wikipedia editors and s that deletion page was just brought to my attention I thought you’d be a good person to reach out to.
