Hi-the dash for the University of Wisconsin campuses would be – Many thanks-RFD (talk) 10:10, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
A page you started (Ludington family) has been reviewed!
Thanks for creating Ludington family, Janweh64!
Wikipedia editor Bfpage just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:
WP usually doesn't have pages like this. I haven't read your references, but the topic must really be about "Ludington family" and not a synthesis of pulling together all family members into one article.

- @Bfpage:, I agree. I just needed a starting point to collaborate with other editors. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 22:56, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- I went back to some of the family member's pages and put a wikilink into the person's article so that it will link back to the family article. I am from Michigan so it was interesting to me. It looks like you are off to a great start. Thanks for creating this article. Best Regards,

- @Bfpage:, Please, jump in with me and Doug Coldwell when you can, there are plenty of sources and room for collaboration. The reason for this article is to prevent the individual members' articles losing focus on the subjects. You will notice a lot of them have extensive ancestry and genealogy sections which is better treated in a Ludington family article. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 23:30, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Ludington family has been nominated for Did You Know

Hi Janweh. Thanks for the review! Just a couple of queries I have. First, I'm a bit confused by your comment that you're "[w]aiting for copyright info on translation".
Could I trouble you to elaborate? Do you need me to provide copyright info? Because I am unable to – the English translation was in the article before I started expansion, and I decided to keep it not knowing its source (I think it came from this external link). If the copyright issue becomes to troublesome, I can delete the English translation and leave only the official Icelandic lyrics. What do you think? —Bloom6132 (talk) 09:30, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Bloom6132: Yes deleting the English translation would work. But before or after you do, you should consider bring the issue up at Wikipedia:Copyright problems as there is a slight chance I maybe mistaken about it being a copyright violation. The translation was added by LittleDan on 4 April, 2003, in this edit and by Cmdrjameson on 27 September, 2005, in this edit. And according to this website, this is a copy of a translation done by Jakobina Johnson, which is not available for commercial use. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 18:22, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- OK, I've removed the English translation to be on the safe side. I don't want to have a similar situation to my DYK with Angola Avante, which was approved and promoted to the MP with the English translation that was later deemed to be a copyvio the following year. Is my nom now good to go? —Bloom6132 (talk) 12:50, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

I saw your changes to the article [1] but getting late here. So far looking better, but ill have a more detailed response on the talk tomorrow. Just giving a heads up that I am not ignoring it. PackMecEng (talk) 03:38, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
Further discussion
@Robert McClenon: I absolutely did not mean to imply you were paid. I only meant other benign external interests and motivations. I realize now the desire to be "civil but discouraging to paid editors." I don't think it is having your desired effect. It is in fact having a much more negative effect. I do not want to continue this discussion there and risk being accused of wasting volunteer time, which often happens. The draft is deleted and there is no point in discussing it further. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 23:04, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

- Jytdog, What is the proper way to escalate this through WP:DR? In the past, you have tried to advise me on how to proceed. I am asking for advice again. Where do I seek help to reach a general consensus on the notability of this subject outside of AFC reviewers. What is the next proper step in the DR course of action? Is AFC the end all in this case? —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 01:07, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hm. Do you remember that I told you, that the better a reputation you establish, the less grief you will get, and the more you are combative, the more resistance you will face? That is the wall you are hitting here. I just reviewed the history and it is a nightmare. First created with a bunch of COPYVIO content by the SofiaSofia person who hired you, and then you jumped into the article in mainspace and directly edited it, and battled with very experienced editors, one of whom finally moved it to draft space, and you have been basically making minor changes and resubmitting it, exhausting the patience and good will of reviewers. This is just .... shooting yourself in the foot.
- What you should have done when you got involved, is let the article be deleted, and start a new one in draft space. That would have saved a ton of grief right there.
- The first thing you should do any article where you are paid to work on, is put the PAID disclosure on the Talk page. It only got posted on June 5 (!) and by someone else (!). Again you just create bad will and dig holes for yourself when you do stuff like that.
- What I recommend you do now, is start over, and write a very short article, using only the five strongest sources you have that have substantial discussion about him (like the NYT). Summarize those sources. Don't use any adjectives. Not one. Show that to me and then we can discuss next steps.
- You asked, and that is my advice so far. Jytdog (talk) 02:44, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
- Actually I created the article from scratch. It was deleted and redirected: [2]. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 02:49, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
- I am not going to litigate what happened in the past with you. You acted badly and you have dug yourself a hole. You can hear that or not. If you want advice about next steps, I have given you my advice, and I will give you more if you follow that. Jytdog (talk) 03:01, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Janweh64, are you planning to return to your review here, or would you rather someone else complete it? I have added a "reviewer needed" icon, but I hope you will continue to be that reviewer. In case you hadn't seen the earlier ping, I wanted to give you a heads-up. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:25, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: I am afraid to be heavily critical of a new editor. The copyvio issues are too large and he has stretched the sources to say beyond what they actually say. I love reviewing but I gotta let someone else take over that one. I will review some other DYKs to help out. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 21:45, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Ethiopian historiography
Hello. I pinged you on my talk page, but I'm wondering if you saw my reply there. Long story short, yes, you may do a DYK for Ethiopian historiography if you like. Kind regards, --Pericles of AthensTalk 13:49, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- @PericlesofAthens: Thanks, I did see that. I am still contemplating a good hook. There is a lot of material but nothing is jumping out at me. I welcome suggestions. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk)
- What about
Did you know ...that the Historiography of Ethiopia in the Early Solomonic period included works by court historians that are now considered "professional flatterers" to their royal patrons?
—አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 14:57, 27 July 2017 (UTC)- Sure! How about this: "...that the 14th-century Kebra Nagast, a seminal work of Ethiopian historiography, asserted that the Ethiopian emperors of the Solomonic dynasty were distant descendants of the biblical Solomon and the Queen of Sheba?"
- Alternatively, you could go with this hook: "...that the chronicle of Ethiopian emperor Gelawdewos (r. 1540-1549 AD), describing his military alliance with the Portuguese against the Ottoman Empire, provides more detail than any previous work of Ethiopian historiography?" --Pericles of AthensTalk 15:14, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello from italian wikipedia! May I ask you if you could translate into english a letter written in amaric? Topic of that letter is the case of Zerai Deres. Article about Z.D. was put in deletion on it.wiki, but then it was totally rewritten with better sources. So, now I found this amharic letter and I would like to understand it. If you could help me, I will thank you very much. --Holapaco77 (talk) 11:21, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Holapaco77:, I will do my best. It may take me a while. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 13:53, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
- OK, thank you again. Here it's the letter: page 1, page 2, page 3. --Holapaco77 (talk) 21:01, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Holapaco77: Is this the best quality available? Could you not darken the lettering a little more? —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 21:11, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
- I just found it on the web. Probably it's possibly to dark the jpg files, but I can't do this now with my smartphone. I can try tomorrow and maybe upload on Commons: I guess it's a letter written before 1954, so I think there are no copyright problem, according with 2004 Ethiopian Copyright Act. --Holapaco77 (talk) 21:27, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Holapaco77: No, no, I tried darkening the jpg files myself. There is too much lost. I was hoping for a better scan. Without a better original scan, I am sorry I cannot help. My Amharic is too rusty to fill-in the missing pieces. I am sorry, I did not realize you were talking about a handwritten letter. This is above my skill level. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 21:50, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you as well. Anyway, if you are still interessed on this topic, I just finished my major editing about Zerai Deres. Since I'm not a mother-tongue speaker, could you help me to check out the article and correct my broken english? Feel free also to improve the article with other info, if you have any more. Thank you so much in advance! --Holapaco77 (talk) 03:24, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

Star Trek: Discovery
Seriously mate, you need to stop and discuss your actions, or you will be reported. There is no need for this nonsense when we could all just have a civil conversation and sort out the matter. You made a bold change and have been reverted by multiple editors over multiple articles, so it is time now to talk about your change and why you think it should be made. This isn't an issue for WP:AFD, this is about whether a split should have been made, and per WP:PROSPLIT there needs to be a discussion made and consensus formed in this situation. Please cooperate, adamstom97 (talk) 07:13, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

- I found this book (ታሪክ በቲያትር መልክ: ዘርዓይ ደረስ) written by አንተነህ ዓለሙ (ʾÄntänäh ʾAlämu): do you know who is this Atanah Alamu (or Ateneh Alemu)? Is he/she alive? - @Holapaco77:, I do not know who he is and we have to assume he is alive. As it is not anonymous and has a copyright warning on page 4, it is still protected by copyright. It was printed by the Artistic Press in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1957 (or 1949 in Ethiopian calendar). The play is mentioned in this article by the Ethiopian scholar Richard Pankhurst. But I don't know how useful the article will be as it requires a subscription to access, which I do not have. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 23:01, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
- Ok thanks, I won't upload it, even if probably it's a famous play, since I found It also in many university library (London, Paris, Napoli, New York, etc.). Check out also this book by Jacques Bureau: sorry, it's in French, but it's very very interesting and explanes why and how ZD was lionized and confirms other info we got before from other sources. Anyway, I guess the article is almost ready for DYK, maybe just need some details from Bureau's book. Maybe it can be added something also about this "Zerai Deres Band": they looks like famous in the 1970s-1980s but I can't get any info in english about this music band. (Maybe you can try to listen to this video and this). --Holapaco77 (talk) 04:49, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

- Yes, I can understand a small french (quite similar to italian language) even if most of what's written it's already reported by Triulzi's book. Btw in the french book (not so long: just 10 pages) we have more details, like marriage, exact date and place of death, first article about the story of ZD published by The Ethiopian Herald on 22nd October 1945 (“Death claims one of Ethiopian oustanding Patriot”), that Haile Sellassie gave him the title of Dejazmach (ደጃዝማች), etc.). I found this picture on facebook: what's written under the image? --Holapaco77 (talk) 10:44, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Can you read french? Or you can try typing it into Google Translate. But that is a lot of work. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 04:59, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- I found this book (ታሪክ በቲያትር መልክ: ዘርዓይ ደረስ) written by አንተነህ ዓለሙ (ʾÄntänäh ʾAlämu): do you know who is this Atanah Alamu (or Ateneh Alemu)? Is he/she alive? I would like to upload the play's coverbook, but I can't find any info about this writer, so I can't check actually if the copyright has expired: can you help me, please? --Holapaco77 (talk) 22:30, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Holapaco77: Yes, I am sure. It is in the source. —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 03:52, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
@Holapaco77: It says word for word: "Zerai Deres, when he was 1(6?) years old, was a look-from-far-away and very silent youth."
Basically, that he was quiet and shy. I am not sure if the age is 16 (፲፮), 17 (፲፯) or 18 (፲፰). —አቤል ዳዊት?(Janweh64) (talk) 16:56, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Neutral point of view
I ask you Janweh64 for help for a problem with a user Holapaco77 who is a lover of fascism and would like to exalt fascism in the pages of Ethiopia.
- Now he added on the character page Zerai Deres calling him crazy even if he is not sure he has become mad because at that time the Fascist regime was RACIST against the Ethiopians who fought for their freedom.
- The voice on the Monument to the Lion of Judah is very important to us Ethiopians, so adding news about Zerai Deres called crazy by the Italian fascists wants to discredit the voice of the Monument to the Lion of Judah.
- Beware of this user Holapaco77 who would like to ruin many pages of English wikipedia on Ethiopia because he is a lover of fascism.
- as it is doing in the Italian wikipedia by making it appear to those who read the Italian wikipedia we Ethiopians like wild, crazy and without history. neutral point of view--Tahurus (talk) 10:25, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Tahurus: First of all, I am not and I will never be a fascism lover, since both my grandparents fought against fascism (the first was hanged and killed by fascists and the other grandfather was persecuted and arrested 3 times by fascists, but fortunately he was saved by partisans before put on a train directed to Aushwitz: for these reason I will NEVER be a fascist). Second, I think you have very big problems to understand both italian and english languages: I never written that Zerai Deres was crazy and I never thought that ZD was mentally ill! I wrote that ZD was arrested by fascist police and put in criminal asylum (it's not a "normal" psychiatric hospital, but it's a jail) because of his protest in front of Lion of Judah. Fascist authorities were used to put in criminal asylum all protesters, because they considered crazy anyone who publicly protested against the regime; but of course protesters weren't crazy. All references I put on ZD article say this: ZD was imprisoned in a criminal asylum because of his protest, not because he was mentally ill. Third, I want to remind you that italian article about ZD was so bad written that was considered an hoax and put in deletion on it.wiki: I re-wrote the italian article two times with good and very solid reference and I was able to save it. Fourth, I already ask you on it.wiki to help me to improve ZD article with new other sources and references, but you didn't do nothing and I'm still waiting. Since you said you work at Addis Ababa University, I asked you to go to library of your university and get books, thesis, or any other verificable refs about ZD, and you answer was: nothing. --Holapaco77 (talk) 07:27, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
