Featuring your work on Wikipedia's front page: DYKs

edit

Thank you for your recent articles, including Marianna Dolinska, which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. Let me know if you need help, Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 15:31, 28 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

edit

Thank you for your recent articles, including Marianna Dolinska, which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information about using those talk page templates. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 15:31, 28 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello KastusK, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Oleg Sentsov have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:59, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Discretionary sanctions alert

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Eastern Europe or the Balkans. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Alexander Lukashenko, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.  — Tartan357  (Talk) 03:28, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

IIHF 2021

edit

You can't expect readers to know about Belarus' situation. So I thought some context was necessary. There actually is plenty of criticism of the IIHF outside of this one championship. Sanctioning Russian players at the last Winter Olympics, for example. A Criticism section should be developed. I don't have the free time at the moment to research it. Basically, the other editors are right according to policy, but there is no need to be terse about it. Cheers! Alaney2k (talk) 17:04, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Stsiapan Putsila. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Stsiapan Putsila), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Russia and SBU

edit

Your claims about "Russia far-right" are claims made by Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). SBU is not WP:RS and is deemed as "unreliable Ukrainian sources" by a scholarly source.

If there was any actual claim about "Russia far right" revival in 2014, then we would be having sources more than just those from 2014-2016.

It is possible that they may have wrongly considered by some Ukrainian sources to be "far right" but in actual they are just pro-Russian militias.

A good example is this recent article by New York Times which also makes no mention of a "far right" in Ukraine just like the 8 years old Washington Post article you used made no mention either.

You should also read Lessons from Russia's Operations in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine which will offer you better insight. ArvindPalaskar (talk) 16:20, 23 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I did, and even your source uses both spellings. Slatersteven (talk) 13:13, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

No, my source only uses the word "Микита". Mykyta is the Ukrainian version of the name, Nikita is the Russian one. As the person is a Ukrainian, it makes more sense to use the Ukrainian spelling.--KastusK (talk) 13:16, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Did you check the headline, it says "Nikita Nadtochiy", as does the source we currently use. Slatersteven (talk) 13:18, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
It is not the source I have used. I have added this Ukrainian article to the text. Of course, MK writes "Nikita" because the whole article is in Russian. However, this person is a Ukrainian and Mykyta is the Ukrainian version of this name. We also write Denys Prokopenko instead of Denis Prokopenko (which would be the Russian version) or Volodymyr Zelenskyy instead of Vladimir Zelenskiy. Check also Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Cyrillic).--KastusK (talk) 13:24, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
And this headline ""There was a message - you are taking command": the "Azov" regiment was temporarily headed by Nikita Nadtochii" (my emphasis). Slatersteven (talk) 13:49, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can you read the Cyrillic alphabet? "тимчасово очолив Микита Надточій". Микита not Никита.--KastusK (talk) 14:41, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Belarusian community RAZAM

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Belarusian community RAZAM, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Sourcing

edit

Just a friendly warning that this edit introduced information in a way that made it appear to be justified by a source, although it wasn't: the 9 Aug 2022 source does not state that Azarau's term would necessarily end on 6 Aug 2023. Having a statement mismatch a source makes an article less reliable. As for actual live sources, the Cabinet itself makes life difficult for Wikipedians by using a Telegram page instead of a regular web page, making it difficult to source even official self-claims. Social media are not reliable sources for de facto governmental type organisations. It would be good to have independent media covering the topic, or academic sources. I did find a Tsikhanouskaya.org source - with almost no information except for his appointment terminating. Boud (talk) 01:35, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
