Nikolai Gogol

Please do not give pages new names without discussion on the talk page. This move was unwarranted, at least insofar as you did not explain or even announce it. My friend, I understand your point but within the encyclopedia an article is given its most common name (see Legion of Honour vs. Legion d'honneur for an example of how I learned this lesson). I wish it were different, but that's the way it is. For Gogol, standard English usage is Nikolai (about 59,000 entries) not [Mykola] (appx. 1,000 entries). This is a warning. You SHOULD NOT change the English spelling of Ukrainian-related terms by Ukrainian Romanization if the conventional English name already exists, such as Kiev to Kyiv. Speedy deletion nomination of Lisova (Kyiv Metro), Akademmistechko (Kyiv Metro), Arsenalna (Kyiv Metro)

A tag has been placed on Lisova (Kyiv Metro), Akademmistechko (Kyiv Metro), Arsenalna (Kyiv Metro), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

it violates the naming convention, Kyiv is not an orthodox and recognized English spelling of Kiev.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Interwiki order

Hello, I just want to let you know that "t" comes before "u" in the English alphabet, so when adding links to the Ukrainian Wikipedia, they should be placed after the Tagalog links for example, not before them. Graham87 03:53, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Lisova (Kiev Metro). Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. Nytczenko — Nytchenko

Zdorov, Lexusans, and welcome to the English wiki. I noticed that you renamed Dmytro Nytczenko to Dmytro Nytchenko. As an 'expert' on the topic, I have reverted it back to the original. I am aware that you are renaming Ukrainian people to their 'proper' Romanized spelling, given that many Ukrainian names have been unjustifiably Russified when the Romanization was carried out (usually by Russian-speaking editors on English wiki). I fully support you in this, however please be careful -- in the case of Dmytro Nytczenko, this was the exact spelling as used by him in Australia, including the official way he spelled it in his Australian publications. Most Ukrainians had their names Polonised or Germanized when they came to English-speaking countries, due to the fact that they were DPs in Germany post-WWII, and mostly had to state that they lived in Poland pre-war (otherwise they would be sent to the 'liberators' -- the Soviets). Most chose not to change their name to a more 'correct' Romanization, but this was their choice. So, please do not change the spelling of Slavic peoples' names who lived in the West -- unless you have direct evidence to support your changes (eg. documented spellings in English). --Very trivial (talk) 06:06, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I reverted your changes to Kseniya Simonova as she uses this spelling in her official websites http://www.simonova.tv and http://www.youtube.com/simonovatv . I recommend that you should consider such sources in future.

She uses Simonova because she speaks russian, but in ukrainian her surname will be Symonova. As she is Ukrainian, not Russian, the article should be called Kseniya Symonova. --Lexusuns (talk) 09:30, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Regarding File:Sonic Youth 100 percent.jpg

I have removed File:Sonic Youth 100 percent.jpg from 100% (Sonic Youth song) because the article specified in the non-free media use rationale is a disambiguation page. The article specified in the rationale is 100%, but it was used on 100% (Sonic Youth song). Please see Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria for the applicable policy and adjust the rationale to point directly to the page where the file is being used. Thank you. Articles to move

Hi Lexusuns! Please consider moving of Chervonoye Pustogorod page to Chervone Pustohorod as article arleady have correct spelling. Automatical redirect between incorrect and correct spelling is absent, so I expect that move of whole article to Chervone Pustohorod with backward redirect from old name should be appropriate move. Thanks.

Hi Lexusuns. When doing a moving of a page (which includes a redirect), it is useful to see the links to the original page by going to the actual page that is redirected and clicking on "What links here". Ideally the links to the original page should then be edited to reflect the new page. For example, if you go to Special:WhatLinksHere/Lozovaya, you will notice quite a few pages that link to the original page. I have already corrected the old link to Lozovaya which was in the Template:Kharkiv Oblast, which was placed on a number of pages. You will also notice there is still a need to "move" the page Category:Lozovaya to the new name... And the work is not finished there! You then need to to go the Ukrainian page uk:Категорія:Лозова to manually correct the link, as the automatic bots do not always correct these redirects. There is a lot of work still to do to de-Russify Ukrainian article and names in Wikipeda... --Very trivial (talk) 05:24, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Per WP:USPLACE and a long series of detailed discussion, the only town names in the United States which get the single-name treatment are the tiny handful which are excepted under the AP Stylebook and other manuals of style for articles in American English, such as Milwaukee. The only cities listed by the AP are Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York City, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington. Even with those, "primary topic" should be judged against all encyclopedic usages of a name; thus, for example, discussions of Phoenix should consider the mythological Phoenix, and discussions of St. Louis should consider Louis IX of France. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:17, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

These are not uncontroversial moves, and just because the Ukrainian transliteration is different does not necessarily mean the move should occur. I don't know if you are aware of the Kiev vs. Kyiv spelling debate regarding Russian vs. Ukrainian transliterations.
