One in a Million

edit

Hello.

I'm writing here to request from you to refrain from completely undoing my edits, even if you dislike them, especially without a prior discussion. As I wrote in my most recent edit description, if you disapprove of my edits when they're that large, please make alterations to them instead of fully removing them.

I work really hard on my contributions and spend a lot of time and energy on them, so I find it difficult to edit One in a Million–and any other article for that matter–when these contributions seem to be thrown out the window. I do understand my recent contribution to the release history was far too long but I've stated the reason why it was the way it was. I've minimized the history as much as I could in order to keep it from being excessive while still leaving relevant dates inside.

I am always willing to compromise and hope that we can co-edit this article in a cooperative fashion from now on, considering the fact you and I both regularly edit all articles related to Aaliyah (my absolute favorite artist ever).

Thank you :) Bronx Langford 17:03, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your edits get reverted because you're adding way too much information and the stuff that you're adding is trivial. The article is already full and there isn't much more information to add because all areas within the article is pretty much covered. At this point you're just bored and adding anything that you can find on the album. For example, the release history section was way too long and there was no need for you to add the release date for every year and region that the album was released in. OkIGetIt20 (talk) 20:38, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I understand all that, but don't you think the quote I added to Imagery makes a nice introduction into the section? It really describes the cover, as well as Aaliyah's image at the time, vividly. I know there is another quote describing the cover but can't we incorporate the Recording Academy one as well? Bronx Langford 08:36, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
not really because as I stated, the quote basically repeats what the last sentence in the first paragraph of the imagery section already says. Also that last sentence is short/simple and summarizes the album cover well.
"The finished product saw Aaliyah "defiantly staring down the camera, dressed in a power jacket and silver-rimmed glasses that once again hid her eyes from ours. The look is pissed-off and unbreakable, not unlike the aggrieved spouse of a politician caught in a sex scandal." OkIGetIt20 (talk) 11:08, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I wanted to say a massive well done on getting this article to GA status, you were so consistent and on point with the responses plus this even inspired me to check out the album! It's an incredible work and if you ever need a review in the future, give me a shout! --K. Peake 16:22, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Impact and legacy

edit

Legacy sections on album articles always mention a bit of what happened after their eras ended. I forgot to write that Aaliyah embarked on a hiatus specifically due to fearing overexposure due to the success of OIAM. If we mention that, wouldn't that be fitting for the section? Ave Maria and Aaliyah

edit

The Ave Maria prayer is in Latin, not Italian. Reversing my correction to Aaliyah's page was wrong. Juliepie628 (talk) 13:49, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Which means the song is in Latin, not Italian. Juliepie628 (talk) 13:53, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

I have gone over that source with a fine tooth comb and I can't find the quote that you mentioned anywhere in the source, if I have missed it please point it out to me.

Thank you. Laylaluvalog (talk) Laylaluvalog (talk) 16:25, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, The quote is literally at end of the album review in the last 3 sentences.
" -- but it's hard to blame her for playing it safe, particularly because she wound up with such a strong pop album, one that reconfirms her gifts as a singer and savviness as a pop star." OkIGetIt20 (talk) 16:32, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I see it now, oh well all the genres can stay, I guess. Laylaluvalog (talk) 16:39, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
The other genres cannot stay because as a whole that album is not soul or disco. Soul and disco are merely elements/influences but the album also includes elements from many genres. OkIGetIt20 (talk) 16:43, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

GA status of One in a Million

edit

Just wanted to thank you for making necessary changes to One in a Million, hence allowing it to become a good article. I wasn't aware K. Peake even responded to my nomination, so I appreciate you taking notice. Both you and I made immense progress with editing the article, so congratulations! Bronx Langford (talk) 21:38, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

you're welcome and thank you for taking time to reconstructing the One in a Million article and making it into a good article, your work on that article was phenomenal! OkIGetIt20 (talk) 16:50, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reversions

edit

It might be timely for you to have a re-read of the guidelines on reversion.

In particular, note:

Do not revert unnecessary edits (i.e., edits that neither improve nor harm the article). For a reversion to be appropriate, the reverted edit must actually make the article worse.

ash (talk) 11:53, 6 October 2024 (UTC) Reply

thanks for the tip! but I don't need someone with only a little bit over a thousand edits to tell me what to do. Also, I reverted your edit because at the time you didn't properly put a wiki link in place, I couldn't find the proper wiki link when I tried to fix it and reverted it instead.
