Motorsport season template

It has occurred to me that it would be better to adjust the original template to remove season and then change the parameters on the articles that still use season in the title, rather than use a duplicate template with different defaults. Wikipedia generally doesn't like similar templates, and someone will likely merge the new one you created in time. QueenCake (talk) 23:49, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

I've been having a look at the template, and it's fairly simple as there's already "if" conditions in place to do that. All we have to do is use the optional title and link fields. For example, for 1994 British Formula Three season:

{{Motorsport season
| series = British Formula Three
| link = British Formula Three season
| title = British Formula Three season
| year = 1994
}}

This will produce exactly the same result as the one currently on the article. It's a simple matter then of removing season from the original template, which means we do not have to do anything on the majority of the articles which don't use season, once they have been moved. Thanks, I wasn't actually aware that F1 has a different template. That will indeed have to be changed as well. In the meantime, I've restarted the process of moving articles. A long process perhaps, but we'll eventually get there. QueenCake (talk) 20:58, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

2019 World Touring Car Cup

OK, I want to clarify this with you - at the moment the team order for touring car season articles usually follow the traditional format with teams being ordered by the car numbers of their drivers. The format you've proposed, similar to ones used in recent World Rally Championship and Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season articles, was removed, because although they're manufacturer supported teams, they're still classified as independent entries by the series organizers and the FIA.

Question on my reverted edit

Hello Rpo.castro. You recently reverted a change that I made to the Giro d'Italia page. My original reason for making this change is consistency. When locations and their countries are listed, we tend to list the country itself, and not go more specific than that. Northern Ireland is not a sovereign country; it is a region of the UK (which, inconveniently, labels most of its regions 'countries'). Listing Northern Ireland instead of the UK would be in the same vein as listing Flanders and Wallonia instead of Belgium. While it is indeed more precise, it is a level of detail that will become confusing if applied consistently.

At least, that's my 2 cents. So my question is: is there a reason for making an exception for the United Kingdom's countries that I am still missing? Arno Sluismans (talk) 09:20, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

@Arno Sluismans: Hi. As I stated briefly in the reversion edit, Nothern Ireland is more precise then UK. We are not speaking about sporting licenses but locations, and most people will say that Belfast is in NIR, Glasgow in Scotland and not in UK. And Nothern Ireland is a country, as is Scotland or Wales, that are united under the United Kingdom that is the sovereign country . So both are locations are correct, but I think NIR is more precise. Plus the sources I found support NIR instead of UK as you can see here, here, or here or every video in Giro d'Italia 2014 official channel on youtube. If you look at last source it talks about how this event would enhace the image of NIR and the return of the investement, that I believe it was paid by NIR Executive (like here). And of course there is no comparison between the countries that are part of the UK (they are de facto countries) and regions in other countries. Rpo.castro (talk) 18:55, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your explanation. I disagree that there is no comparison between UK's countries and other nations' regions; even on Wikipedia it is documented that these are simply administrative divisions. The term "countries" may make it not seem so, but even this is not exceptional. Germany is comprised of Länder (literally: countries) as well, but we would not list Cologne as being a location in North Rhine-Westphalia.

I was hoping to find a consensus on Wikipedia about this, as such consistency cannot be expected from different external sources. Even on Wikipedia the usage seems to be quite mixed right now, so it looks like it's up to whoever writes the articles to decide. Since I am quite an infrequent editor I don't want to kick up too much dust about such a minor topic, so I will leave the page as it is (after you reverted my edit, that is). @Arno Sluismans: Scotland,NIR or Wales aren't simply administratives regions or divisions. They are countries unified under the same Kingdom. Every source will call it countries. If they aren't how could they have their National teams in most sports? Recognize by UK/England. And regarding to this particular situation, the 2014 Giro run solely in NIR and Ireland. Never in the biggest part of UK, so just stating UK would lead to wrong picture. This is my opinion. Like I said, both are right I think this way is better, but its just a detail. If you think this need to be discussed lets open a topic on article talk page and ask for different opinions. Hello again Rpo.castro. The confusion is understandable due to the nomenclature, as the word "country" in every other context tends to refer to independent nations. Wikipedia itself classifies Countries of the United Kingdom as being administrative divisions. Internationally, the countries of the UK tend to be treated similarly to how substates of federated countries are treated. Again, the examples of Germany and Belgium are a good way to illustrate this.

Your note about sports is not something we should draw conclusions from. Competitions where the UK's countries are represented separately (e.g. Football) are sports that originated in the UK, and where competitions between the home nations are in fact the historical origin of international competitions. In competitions that originate elsewhere (such as cycling, or the Olympic Games in general), the countries of the UK are not represented individually, as the criteria for representation roughly boil down to: you have to be a sovereign state.

Like I mentioned previously, I am okay with leaving the article as it is right now. I will leave it up to you if you think it can be worth getting second opinions on. Arno Sluismans (talk) 14:11, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

CCC Pro Team

Hello, Rpo.castro,

I see you are requesting that the page CCC Pro Team be deleted so you can move a different article to this title. But when I looked at that page, the phrase "CCC Pro Team" doesn't appear anywhere in the article and "CCC" isn't even mentioned in the lead paragraph so I'm doubting that this is the current name of this team or, at least, how the team is known.

If I am wrong, can you please correct the lead paragraph so that it demonstrates that this team is now referred to by the title of the page where you want this article to be relocated to? Thank you. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 23:41, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

@Liz: Done. We were expecting to make the move first and then adapt. After we move Intermarché–Wanty–Gobert Matériaux to CCC, we will the former to be deleted do Circus–Wanty Gobert can be moved there. Czech Cycling Tour

Hello I see you moved this page to Sazka Tour however we do not name race pages with the sponsor name i.e. Tour Down Under not Santos Tour Down Under. Also on the website for this race it is called Czech tour. [1]. Also according to this message by sazka sponsor [2] the race will be dropping Sazka name. Please revert your move. @Turini2: Hi. 1)It's easy, just open a template from any team, copy and create the new one, changing the name and the years. Its very easy, few changes. I just created the template for Proximus which UCI code in CTW. Now you just need to create the article for the team (it's not really needed for the template to work, but it would be better). 2) Torelli answers for Torelli while Toronto answers for TOR 3) Massi–Tactic Women Team answers for MAT2. When you need to create or move a template to a new code that was already in use you have to call it other name, either the name of the team (Torelli), or xxx2. You can't have 2 with the same. Before you create, search for codes from previous years. It might be there but with an old designation. I hope I could help you.
