Disambiguation link notification for July 4
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Taiwan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page State. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

editHello, I'm General Ization. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Formosa Fun Coast explosion, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Lists of earthquakes
editHi, the 921 event is one of our articles that doesn't fit the standard year + location naming convention, but we can probably just leave it as it is for simplicity. That's one thing I'm always aiming for around here. ;) Dawnseeker2000 17:26, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Orphaned non-free image File:Kaohsiung Rapid Transit logo.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Kaohsiung Rapid Transit logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:28, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Oshwah. I noticed that you recently removed some content from List of countries by national capital, largest and second-largest cities with this edit, without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:17, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
I noticed your recent edit to Taiwan does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! bojo1498 talk 17:12, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

MfD nomination of Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/China
editWikipedia:Centralized discussion/China, a page which you created or substantially contributed to (or which is in your userspace), has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/China and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/China during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Page moves
editI have reverted your moves of History of Taiwan and Taiwan after World War II, because I believe the extra precision is superfluous. I was surprised to see that shortly after you had opened a discussion on naming policy in this topic area, that you were undercutting any discussion by making unilateral moves. Kanguole 22:44, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
@Kanguole: I moved the pages on the grounds of WP:D. I don't know if you've noticed but that discussion is being deleted and I don't see you backing it up. The discussion I opened is going nowhere. It's all "I think this should be like this", with no clear rationale. No one is following the procedure similar to a successful attempt, or even talking about that. If you have beliefs about the issue but are not willing to discuss them what's the point? Szqecs (talk) 02:23, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

The article History of Taiwan (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
per WP:2DABS
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Boleyn (talk) 06:31, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Template:MRT station and Template:Mrtl
editA tag has been placed on Template:MRT station and Template:Mrtl requesting that they be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because they are unused duplicates of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if they are still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the templates will be deleted.
If the templates are not actually the same as the other templates noted, please consider putting a note on the templates' pages explaining how they are different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>
).
If you think the pages should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Do not use AWB to make mass edits that are not supported by consensus, for example your violation of WP:ENGVAR in Taiwan-related articles. There is zero reason to use British spelling in Taiwan-related articles, and slightly more reason to use American spelling. If you want to propose a general change of the variant of English used, please propose it at a relevant WikiProject talk page. Do not use AWB again for edits like this, or your AWB access may be revoked. I have reverted some of your recent edits. —Kusma (t·c) 09:40, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

- I am linking administrator @Kusma: on this because I'm getting tired of reverting your disruptive editing. I have told you not to do this whether through AWB or not, and so have administrators. Please revert ALL the changes you have made. Examples are here, here, here, and here. It looks like 25 done just today! It was also discussed at the Taiwan talk page so you know darned well it is controversial and non-consensus. Do not use AWB to change date formats without pointing to a consensus. "Cleanup using AWB" is a fairly deceptive edit summary for this practice. I will remove your AWB access if you continue this way. —Kusma (t·c) 14:47, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
@Fyunck(click): Are you ok with yyyy-mm-dd in lists, tables and infoboxes? That is what East Asia uses. Szqecs (talk) 07:32, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- I would run it by the Taiwan talk page where it was initially brought up, and the administrator who admonished you. They also use mm-dd-yyyy but my understanding is that your suggestion of yyyy-mm-dd is much more prevalent in Taiwan. I'm not sure if we are supposed to mass change things like that so you might need consensus at talk:Taiwan, but I'm ok with it if everyone else is. Thanks for asking and happy editing. Module:Adjacent stations
editRecent edits at Module:Adjacent stations have put many articles in the script error category. Also, are you sure it is a good idea to redefine standard Lua type
by using Type
? Johnuniq (talk) 10:22, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- What is this script error category and why is this considered error when the module works just fine? Szqecs (talk) 10:30, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- The link above shows articles that are in Category:Pages with script errors. That is caused by a module responding with an error. I purged the category and it seems many of the errors were fixed. That sometimes occurs when a couple of edits are made to a module—the first edit might have resulted in an error that was fixed shortly after. However, the system can respond slowly and the error message might stay until a null edit occurs at the article.
An example of a problem is at Hankou railway station which currently shows Lua error in Module:Adjacent_stations at line 542: attempt to concatenate local 'color' (a nil value). That might be due to an error in the article wikitext, or a problem in the module. There might not be any other articles with a problem—the system is slow at the moment and it is not responding as it normally does to the purge I did. Hmm, on previewing, that error I mentioned is gone and I see Jc86035 is editing the module. Perhaps that removed some of the errors? Johnuniq (talk) 11:50, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Manual of Style/China and Chinese-related articles
editI have undone your addition to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/China and Chinese-related articles as there is no consensus for such a change. I see you linked it to this section, but that does not establish consensus; other than yourself there were no participants, so the section just contains your views. If you want to change policies then a clear consensus among editors is needed. A RfC is a good way but it needs to be much better advertised, so multiple editors participate. The guideline is about not just China the country but the use of Chinese in articles, so it clearly covers Taiwan in many aspects. As with all guidelines editors should use common sense when applying it, but that is not particular to Taiwan or any other topic area.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 11:51, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
- WP:PGCHANGE:
It is not strictly necessary to discuss changes or to obtain written documentation of a consensus in advance.
If you personally object, bring it up where you think is better advertised and we can talk about it. Szqecs (talk) 12:52, 10 October 2018 (UTC) - By the way, I have brought it up here before. Also no comment, so it is uncontroversial. Szqecs (talk) 13:06, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
"National Freeway" vs. "National freeway"
editIn normal English, if there are two words in front of a number in a highway name, and one is capitalized as part of the proper name, then both should be capitalized because the first word is modifying the second, and the two of them are jointly modifying the number. "State Route 1" is correctly capitalized, but "State route 1" is not. So if these roadways are really named as such, "National Freeway 1" is the correct capitalization, but "National freeway 1" is not.
As for "Route nationale 1", that is a French name, and it follows French capitalization and word order. If it were translated to English, it would be "National Route 1", and not "national Route 1" nor "National route 1". Imzadi 1979 → 18:56, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
if there are two words in front of a number in a highway name, and one is capitalized as part of the proper name, then both should be capitalized because the first word is modifying the second, and the two of them are jointly modifying the number.
Do you have a linguistic reference for that? Because I've never heard of that before. I am simply following MOS:CAPS, which says Wikipedia prefers lowercase unless sources identify the name to be proper, not based on grammar rules. Two more examples: National road 1 (Poland), National road 1A (Vietnam). Szqecs (talk) 19:05, 28 October 2018 (UTC)- Also, who says these titles are proper names? See Proper noun#Proper names. Things can be referred to in either a proper or non-proper manner. Szqecs (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, the Freeway Bureau uses "National Freeway" on its website. -happy5214 06:53, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- The bureau (and most Taiwanese people for that matter) capitalises everything, proper or not. On the said page, I see 'Contact Us', 'Safe Driving Tips' and 'Related Websites'. If 'National Freeway' is a proper name, the two words should always be used together, which is not the case: 'Freeway No. 1'. Szqecs (talk) 07:05, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- Those are link and page titles. Comparing those phrases (which, at least on that page, do not occur in prose) to "National Freeway", or even "Freeway" (which are capitalized in prose), is a flawed argument. -happy5214 10:33, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Well, is 'Second Northern Freeway' proper? There are barely any uses of this term on the internet. What about 'Ten Major Construction Projects'? It is not even concrete thing, but an idea. What about 'Director's Mailbox'? Given that aforementioned page has quite a few grammar and style issues, such as no space after full stop, 'the new Freeway Bureau' etc, I would not consider these names to be proper just because they are capitalised. And that is besides the point. There are many instances of 'Freeway No. x' on the website without the word 'National', so claiming these names are proper means claiming they have at least two proper names, which just seems unlikely. Szqecs (talk) 16:05, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- I'll respond to the points made above when I have more time. In the meantime, I have linked to this discussion from the WikiProject Highways talk page, in the hopes of getting more eyes on this. -happy5214 12:07, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- It is not unheard of in the US for the same highway to have multiple proper names. For example, Interstate 10 in Texas has the proper names "Interstate 10" and "Interstate Highway 10", the latter being the official style for Interstates in Texas. All numbered highways in California are officially "Route xxx", regardless of type, but we reference state (not Interstate or U.S. Route) routes as "State Route xxx". Highway article naming conventions have been extremely contentious in the past (see WP:SRNC and the related ArbCom case), so this is not a simple matter. -happy5214 11:06, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

editNearly a year ago I asked you this same question and I would like an answer.
(I'm absolutely not accusing you of any wrong-doing - just curious, thanks.)--BushelCandle (talk) 01:01, 7 May 2019 (UTC):
- Do you intend to answer me - or should I remove this page from my watchlist? --BushelCandle (talk) 11:17, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Because I changed my email and I use the same username for everything. Ythlev (talk) 14:56, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
