That quoted passage actually says to use latin signatures and userpage redirects - it emphatically does not prohibit the usernames themselves. Users are allowed to create accounts with nonlatin usernames, and such are pretty universally rejected (ie, not blocked) at WP:UAA. It seems strange to be stricter about username changes than we are about newly-created names. SamBC(talk) 19:44, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I really do hope this is reconsidered as you are hereby denying a username change that is clearly within policy. This maybe the english wikipedia, but we have the username policy for a reason, even the crats should follow that. Ryan Postlethwaite 19:48, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the single letter cabal had an user whose user name was just one chinese character. Where can I find more information about the unified login? A.Z. 02:23, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The editor is free to create an account with his Hebrew username, which he can then redirect to his latin-character username, or vice versa, as I already suggested. But know that it is disrespectful to the community to use a name that is meaningless to most. Other editors are entitled to know who they are dealing with, and a spate of non-Latin usernames simply creates a new class of anon, as it is difficult for others to separate any one such user from another. Though he can create a non-Latin username himself, I don't feel that I ought to facilitate this by a rename. If another bureaucrat (hopefully, an active one) does the change, so be it, but I think it is the wrong thing to do. -- Cecropia 14:13, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Requested name: Single16+Sections (rename user)
  • Reason: Renaming has already taken place as part of the right to vanish, however a number of true and false accusations of sockpuppetry retain reference to the old username, and on one occasion the old userpage was recreated, apparently maliciously, by an admin known to the user in real life. Request changing the sockpuppet accusation/findings pages to reflect change to username, and protecting them so they can't be changed back. BTW, there is now a sockpuppet tag and the account is blocked, even though this account was never used as a sockpuppet? When I decided to stop editing i requested a complete disapearance of the account, and a template has been added there, hence it can be found via google indexing (thats how my former boss found it). We will be happy to stay with the user name we have, I'm not sure about the point "policy doesn't accept promotional user identities" - that would mean no names of groups and badns in music are allowed?, Atlanta is a Liverpool pop music group name like any other listed on Wikipedia and they are a Boy Band, which is just informing the reader what the group are? - we can't just use ATLANTA as it would clash and be duplicated with the City in the USA can you please advise? Many Thanks Atlanta Liverpool Boy Band 16:00, 20 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Atlanta Liverpool Boy Band (talkcontribs)

More information is at WP:IU. The reason that your name can't be accepted is because it appears to be promoting your band. Also, Wikipedia is not a webhost, so while it is great that you are making a web page for your band here, the main goal of Wikipedia is to write an encyclopedia, and so therefore it is against what we stand for here to provide you with a free space for your band. Also, it is stated in the GFDL (GNU free documentation license), Wikipedia's copyright license, that user accounts can only be used by one person, and not by multiple people or a group such as a band. Hope that's a bit more clear, and happy editing :) ( arky ) 21:01, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What I then can't understand is why are every Pop Group or Band listed? their are thousands of them, their is no dofference at all. I have opened an account in my own name as manager, can I post the artcile? Atlanta Liverpool Boy Band 05:11, 21 October 2007 (UTC)JBS —Preceding unsigned comment added by Atlanta Liverpool Boy Band (talkcontribs)

I would point out that at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Atlanta Boy Band I suggested that the article Atlanta Boy Band, if it survives the deletion nomination, be moved to Atlanta (boy band). But I didn't say anything about this editor's username. It doesn't matter that much to me how the editor chooses to designate himself. --Metropolitan90 01:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Early this morning (25 October 2007) the entry for "Atlanta Boy Band" has been deleted, this was just an hour or so after all the relevant information requested had been published with citations of evidence/proof.

We are currently in the process of appeal/request to get the entry fully restored. The parties who supplied the proof asked for are going to be most disappointed with this action taken. See all evidence.
