    • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 3.8.19:
      स इत्थमुद्वीक्ष्य तदब्जनालनाडीभिर्अन्तर्जलमाविवेश। नार्वाग्गतस्तत्खरनालनालनाभिं विचिन्वंस्तदविन्दताजः॥
      sa itthamudvīkṣya tadabjanālanāḍībhirantarjalamāviveśa. nārvāggatastatkharanālanālanābhiṃ vicinvaṃstadavindatājaḥ.
      Lord Brahmā, thus contemplating, entered the water through the channel of the stem of the lotus. But in spite of entering the stem and going nearer to the navel of Viṣṇu, he could not trace out the root.
  2. (anatomy) a blood vessel
    • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 3.26.67:
      विष्णुर्गत्यैव चरणौ नोदतिष्ठत्तदा विराट्। नाडीर्नद्यो लोहितेन नोदतिष्ठत्तदा विराट्॥
      viṣṇurgatyaiva caraṇau nodatiṣṭhattadā virāṭ. nāḍīrnadyo lohitena nodatiṣṭhattadā virāṭ.
      Lord Viṣṇu entered his feet with the faculty of locomotion, but Virāj refused to stand up even then. The rivers entered his blood vessels with the blood and the power of circulation, but still the cosmic being could not be made to stir.
