Befähigung zum Richteramt f (genitive Befähigung zum Richteramt, no plural)

  1. (Germany, law) the status of a person who qualifies for practice as an attorney, state attorney, or judge due to either having completed legal education with the successful first and second state examinations (Volljurist) or being a professor ordinarius of law (which only requires the first state examination, alone however empirically rare for a professor of law). Such persons also qualify for all levels of public administration as civil servants in the same fashion as those master's level graduates who have completed preparatory service (Referendariat) specific to public administration.
