From Middle Dutch knofloick, knuuflooch, a dissimilated variant of earlier Middle Dutch cloffloc (literally clove-leek), from Old Dutch *kloflōk, from Proto-West Germanic *klobulauk (literally clove-leek), equivalent to klieven +‎ look. Compare German Knoblauch, West Frisian knyflok and English clove.
