- Ah, it's obvious I see. The sub-pages are being transcluded onto the main keywords page * {{Java:super}} like that. Hence the main page is pulling in all the language interwiki links. I think this means that you can't interwiki the sub-pages. QU TalkQu 20:23, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, so let me remove my accidental vandalism :-( Interwikis are useful, and wikibooks needs more interwikis - most pages were created in isolation, looking at what is there in other languages can improve a lot the pages. Albmont (talk) 23:10, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
Interwikis
[edit source]I saw this comment here. All interwikis have to be done manually, as we have no interwiki robots and the community has refused to approve more, feeling that a script would be inaccurate. See here for what I mean. --Adrignola talk contribs 18:46, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- Interwiking robotically could give false results, but I think doing it manually also gives falses results - imagine doing manually an interwiki to zh or he! Albmont (talk) 23:32, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- I would hope those doing interwikis would know the languages of each project, ideally. I'm limited to machine translation myself, unfortunately, so I don't do much of it. We did have one interwiki bot, but we recently removed its flag because it was inactive for over a year. Of course, one doesn't have to be flagged to run a bot, but other than people coming by wanting the flag immediately before running theirs, nobody has taken it upon themselves to run one unflagged. -- Adrignola talk contribs 02:21, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- I've seen some problems in robotic interwikis, but usually the root is in human error. Specially when people interwiki to a redirect, or to a field inside an article ("page name#page chapter"). Also, I saw that there's a problem in wikibooks since there may (and should) have many books for the same subject. I came across this problem when I was trying to get material to the Portuguese books on Maths, Physics and Chemistry: there are books for ages below 14, for the range 15-18, and for University level. Not all interwikis are exactly for the same age, and I'm not sure if it's better to interwiki even with the age difference (after all, the purpose of interwiking is to give ideas to enrich both texts based on the other language) or not (because when the appropriate-age book is written, there will be wrong interwikis). - That's likely the main objection people have in mind against interwiki bots. Along that same vein, that is why I am so strict about maintaining title casing for books; English Wikibooks is unique in its use of dynamic pages via categories for subject pages as far as I know, and bots matching up interwikis for categories won't care whether it's a category for a single book or a whole class of books. Making a book's category title case and a subject's category sentence case ensures those general categories match up with most other language Wikibooks (as they follow Wikipedia's naming convention for generic categories). -- Adrignola talk contribs 13:11, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
