Paloma Sierra is a Puerto Rican writer and director who develops and reimagines new works and poetry for stage and film. [1] [2]

Early life and education

[edit]

Sierra was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She attended the Escuela Secundaria de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (UHS); [3] [4] graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BHA in Creative Writing and Drama (2019) and a MFA in Dramatic Writing (2021); [5] and later earned an MA in Directing from LAMDA. [6]

Career

[edit]

Sierra began her career writing bilingual poetry, musicals, and operas at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama’s annual Playground Festival while studying creative writing and scenic design. [7] [8] [9] Her work won her an appointment as the first Emerging Poet Laureate of Allegheny County (2020 - 2021), [10] [11] through which she delved into film, winning the inaugural ¡Tú Cuentas! Cine Youth Fest with her poetic short film “I Am Soil Breaking Off.” [12]

Upon completing her graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon and LAMDA, and pursuing further translation and performance training on a Fulbright scholarship (2021-2022), [13] Sierra established a career as a director, assistant director, and dramaturg. She has collaborated with established and up-and-coming writers and composers such as Roy Williams, Samora La Perdida, and Johanny Navarro, [14] [15] [16] developing new, award-winning plays, musicals, and operas across the United States and Europe.
