Gordonstoun is a Scottish co-educational independent school famed for having educated three generations of British royalty. Founded as an international school in 1934 by the German educator Dr. Kurt Hahn, it is best-known as the school attended during the 1960s by Charles, King of the United Kingdom, on the recommendation of his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who had himself been one of the first students to attend Gordonstoun.

Stonyhurst College is an independent, Roman Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition located in rural Lancashire, England. Founded in 1593, Stonyhurst has a long-standing literary tradition. Former pupil Sir Arthur Conan Doyle modelled "Baskerville Hall" on Stonyhurst Hall, and named Sherlock Holmes' nemesis, Moriarty, after a fellow pupil. J.R.R. Tolkien wrote part of the Lord of the Rings in a classroom on the Upper Gallery during his stay at the College.

Robert College of Istanbul (Turkish: Istanbul Amerikan Robert Lisesi) is one of the most selective independent private high schools in Turkey. The Institution is the oldest American school still in existence in its original location outside of the United States, and has a long list of notable alumni, including Nobel Prize recipient Orhan Pamuk.

Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík or MR is the oldest gymnasium (Icelandic: Menntaskóli) in Reykjavík, Iceland. Many Icelandic politicians, including former Prime Minister Davíð Oddsson and the current President of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, attended MR. Almost every Prime Minister of Iceland has been educated at the school apart from Halldór Ásgrímsson, Ólafur Jóhannesson and Þorsteinn Pálsson.

Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts is the oldest continuously running incorporated boarding school in the United States. Among other notable alumni, Andover has educated two American Presidents, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, Law and Order creator Dick Wolf, four Medal of Honor recipients, inventor Samuel Morse, and author Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr..

The Lycée Henri-IV (sometimes called HIV, H4, or Henri-Quatre) is a public secondary school located in Paris, France. Henri-IV is located in the nationally-historic buildings of the former Sainte Geneviève abbey. After the French Revolution, it was transformed into a public lycée, the first one in France. Its former pupils include French philosophers and writers such as Jean-Paul Sartre and André Gide.

The St. Thomas School of Leipzig (German: Thomasschule zu Leipzig) was founded by the Augustinians in 1212 and is one of the oldest schools in the world. St. Thomas School is well known for its art, language and music education. The Humanistic Gymnasium has a very long list of distinguished former students, including Richard Wagner (1813–1883) and many members of the Bach family.

Auckland Grammar School is a boys-only state secondary school in Auckland, New Zealand. Established in 1850, it is one of the largest schools in New Zealand, with approximately 2,760 boys in 2008. Auckland Grammar School contains two Category I historic places, which are the school's main block and a war memorial. Alumni range from explorer Sir Edmund Hillary to actor Russell Crowe.

Katedralskolan (Swedish; "the Cathedral School"; colloquially Katte) is a school in Uppsala, Sweden that traces its history back to the 13th century, although the exact year it was founded is unknown. Alumni include King of Sweden Gustav I, Prime Minister of Sweden Erik Gustaf Boström, Secretary-General of the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld, and three Nobel laureates.

National Tainan First Senior High School (Chinese: 國立臺南第一高級中學) is a public senior high school in Tainan City, Taiwan. The school was established in 1922 and is often considered one of the most prestigious secondary schools in southern Taiwan. The Lawrenceville School is a coeducational, independent preparatory boarding school for grades 9-12 located in the historic community of Lawrenceville, in Lawrence Township, New Jersey, U.S. As of June 30, 2006, its endowment was roughly $229 million, or nearly $290,000 per student. La Martinière College is a premiere educational institution located in Lucknow, the capital of the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh. The College consists of two schools: La Martinière Boys' College was founded in 1845 and La Martinière Girls' College was established in 1869. The Boys' College is the only school in the world to have been awarded royal battle honours.

Founded in 1829, UCC is the oldest independent school in the province of Ontario, the third oldest in the country, and is often described as the most prestigious preparatory school in Canada. Raffles Institution is an independent boys' secondary school in Singapore. Founded in 1823 as Singapore Institution by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, it was consistently ranked as one of the top secondary schools in Singapore in the now-defunct official school rankings released by the Ministry of Education. Harrow School is a public school for boys located in Harrow on the Hill in Middlesex, England. It is one of the original nine English public schools as defined by the Public Schools Act 1868. Harrow has many notable alumni, who are known as Old Harrovians, including seven former British Prime Ministers (including Winston Churchill and Robert Peel), and the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. Bergen katedralskole (English: Bergen Cathedral School, Latin: Schola Cathedralis Bergensis, colloquially known as Katten) is an upper secondary school in Bergen, Norway. The school is thought to have been founded in 1153 by Nicholas Breakspear (later Pope Adrian IV). The school has a reputation as a prestigious school, because of its history and high grade requirements. Its alumni includes Frederik Stang, Norway's first prime minister.

Eton College, also known simply as Eton, is a British independent school for boys, founded in 1440 by King Henry VI. It is located in Eton, near Windsor in England, and is one of the original nine English "public schools" as defined by the Public Schools Act 1868. The school has a long list of distinguished former pupils, including eighteen former British Prime Ministers. Traditionally, Eton has been referred to as "the chief nurse of England's statesmen", and is often described as the most famous public school in the world.

The Boston Latin School is a public exam school founded on April 23, 1635, in Boston, Massachusetts, making it the oldest public school in the United States. Cleveland Tower, designed by Ralph Adams Cram, is a prominent landmark of Princeton University. It is one of the defining architectural features of the Collegiate Gothic Graduate College, inspired by Boston College's Gasson Hall. The tower was built in 1913 as a memorial to former U.S. President Grover Cleveland, who also served as a university trustee. A bust of the former president is the centerpiece of the grand chamber at the tower's ground level.

The University of Wrocław is a public research university located in Wrocław, Poland. It was founded in 1945, replacing the previous German University of Breslau. Following the territorial changes of Poland's borders, academics restored the university building on the banks of the Oder river, which was heavily damaged and split as a result of the Battle of Breslau (1945). Nowadays, it is one of the most prominent educational institutions in the region.
