Buxted Station

[edit]

"Buxted retains a railway station, although this no longer has a line."

I don't think this is correct is it? Buxted railway station still seems to have trains calling at it as of 30 Jan 2006. Live Departures for Buxted

Trains are still running to Buxted, they go on to Uckfield. The line is now single track but served by pretty good and new trains.

Buxted Chickens factories

[edit]

Quite which came first, the Five Ash Down egg or the Buxted chicken is beyond me. But there was definitely a factory between Gordon Road and Framfield Road/Limes Lane until the 1980s. My parents lived across the field from 1977 (and my Mum still does). My cat used to filch bits including a whole chicken once. The factory closed down in the 1980s and the site was redeveloped for housing except for a small area which Elsan took over.

If the F-A-D factory is the one I think it is then I'm pretty sure it wasn't called Buxted Chickens in my day - my sister spent a summer at that one pulling bits out of chickens - unsurprisingly she's now a veggie. Since this article is about Buxted not F-A-D reference to the factory in Buxted is quite legitimate - a separate article should then be written on Buxted Chickens itself giving due weight to the different factories.

I think it would be appropriate to mention the factory in FAD, as FAD does form part of Buxted parish.

The other villages

[edit]

I think separate, but linked, pages for Five Ash Down, Heron's Gyhll and High Hurstwood are merited.

Definitely not! see the Wiki article here which specifically states that the smaller parts of a civil parish (CP) should be included in the CP article. The intention is to cut down on stubs and to produce a more robust article. Peter Shearan (talk) 05:29, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Some one cut this article down considerably by removing a copyright violation. I have tried to restore the material on the first English blast furnace, but I do not live in the area and am not familiar wiht local geography. I have therefore omitted the following:

It is credited as being the birthplace of the cannon, although actually the cannon was invented in a small house near Five Ashes, 3 miles (4.8km) to the east.

'Invention' is in fact not correct, as I think the technology came from abroad. I hope that some one familiar with the area can restore rather more. Peterkingiron 21:56, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

see the article Cannon for the facts of the case! Peter Shearan (talk) 05:32, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have rewritten this article (and included further info) in accordance with [1] the Wikipedia notes on writing about settlements. The notes help to see what other information might be included when writing such an article. Peter Shearan (talk) 06:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
