Fan page/CV
[edit]Most of this page is a list of not just major publications but also anthology pieces, readings and "appreciations." This is far more extensive than the Hugo Hamilton page. The article as it stands reads like a puff piece with little but laudatory comment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SeamusSweeney (talk • contribs) 07:08, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- If you want to start a section critically appraising his works, you're free to do so.
- This is an encyclopaedia. Including a list of scholarly articles written on the subject and his work is not "puff" journalism; it's providing readers with an interest in the subject and his work information on what has been written on him.
- Wikipedia and its users would only benefit, in my opinion, if similar bibliographic information was provided for other authors.
- Please indicate where the "laudatory" comment is in the article. I would remind you that the subject is a living person, so what is written about him must adhere to certain guidelines. In addition, no original research is allowed on Wikipedia. If you want to say, for example, that what the writer has produced is rubbish, then you have to provide a source for that.
- Stating that the writer has published books, won prizes, etc., is not laudatory. It is a simple statement of fact, as is the mention that he admitted to aggravated sexual assault on a minor. All this information belongs in the article.--Damac (talk) 08:58, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Sex abuse case 2008-09
[edit]It seems less than encyclopaedic for the article to omit his sex abuse of an underaged special needs boy in 2006, for which he pleaded guilty and was given a 2-year suspended prison sentence. Hearing: http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/courts/author-pleads-guilty-to-sex-assault-on-teen-boy-26461156.html Sentence: http://www.independent.ie/regionals/kerryman/news/convicted-child-abuser-walks-free-from-court-27387573.html Maybe an editor can redact the sad details?78.16.33.213 (talk) 20:51, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
- I added Category:Irish people convicted of child sexual abuse but this was removed without any discussion on this page by User:Materialscientist. Pre-flight check: DH is Irish; was convicted by a public court; was convicted of sex abuse with an under-17 year old. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced. Materialscientist did not check the facts and deleted within an hour.78.16.33.213 (talk) 08:52, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
