- with principal conductors: Sir Neville Marriner (1983–1989), (...), Sir Roger Norrington (1998–2011)
- Erwin Lehn and his "Südfunk Tanzorchester", dance music and "Big Band"
- Südfunk-Chor, vocal ensemble
- SWF had 2 orchestras
- Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks (Baden-Baden), see Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra, now Baden-Baden and Freiburg im Breisgau, "contemporary (symphonic) music", see Donaueschingen Festival
