[edit]

I want to edit this page to add this updated map of places that IShowSpeed has visited. (He recently went to Vietnam)

Also, according to his stream (irl stream in Vietnam), he said that he'll visit Cambodia soon.

I can't upload the updated map that I made to Wikipedia right now due to Wikipedia somehow doesn't allow me to do so. Kbft0n (talk) 04:08, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: Welcome to Wikipedia, Kbft0n. You cannot edit the article because an administrator has protected it from editing indefinitely due to consistent disruption and vandalism. You'll gain the ability to edit the page once your account becomes 4 days old and accumulates 10 edits. In the meantime, you can upload your new image and, once that's done, make a new edit request with a link to it. An editor will then eventually come along and swap out the image. —Sirdog (talk) 18:50, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Map of countries visited???

[edit]

Why is there a map of countries he has visited? He's not some head of state or something. It looks like IShowSpeed himself has added that. Either that or one of his baby fans. 2405:201:4009:5182:F50B:5F71:498C:E8CC (talk) 14:01, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IMO this page shouldn't even exist. This is a TikTok influencer who is a non-notable figure. He's done nothing of historical or societal significance, unless you consider jump-scaring a 6 month old baby noteworthy. Why he even has a wikipedia page is beyond me, and I would encourage anyone with better edit access than myself to delete it and keep it deleted. Influencers who benefit from the suffering of others should not be given a platform or pseudo-officialization by Wikipedia. Unim1337 (talk) 16:43, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He's one of the biggest social media influencers and one of the biggest streamers on YouTube. Wdym he's not notable enough? EarthDude (talk) 08:16, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
FYI...it seemed to have been re-added. I have since gone in and removed the map and am trying to clean up this article as a whole. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 13:46, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I'm requesting a review and deletion of the Wikipedia page for IShowSpeed (Darren Jason Watkins Jr.). Despite having amassed a large social media following, I believe his content and behavior do not align with Wikipedia’s notability guidelines or its mission as an authoritative and factual resource.

According to Wikipedia’s Notability Guidelines, a person must have received significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject, and this coverage should provide substantial information beyond trivial mentions or viral fame. While IShowSpeed has attracted attention for his online behavior, much of this attention is due to harmful, offensive, or unethical content, such as:

Sexist and Offensive Behavior: He has been banned from platforms like Twitch for sexist remarks directed toward women, and similar incidents have taken place while playing the game Valorant. Harmful Pranks: He has created distressing content, such as a video where he startled a baby to the point of making the child cry, exploiting vulnerable individuals for entertainment. Reckless Stunts: His infamous fireworks incident, where he nearly set his room on fire, demonstrates a pattern of dangerous behavior that gains views through shock value rather than meaningful or notable contributions to society. While these incidents have resulted in viral clips and short-term notoriety, they do not demonstrate lasting societal or historical significance, which is a core criterion for notability. His fame is largely built on controversy and the exploitation of others' distress or discomfort, which fails to meet the high standards Wikipedia holds for inclusion.

Additionally, Wikipedia’s Biographies of Living Persons policy advises caution when including content about individuals who are primarily known for negative reasons. Providing a platform to such individuals can inadvertently endorse harmful behavior and content, which runs counter to Wikipedia’s objective role as a reliable knowledge base.

The entire article is completely biased. It fails to fully address the depth of his controversies and the harm caused by his actions. Although incidents such as his bans from Twitch and Valorant are mentioned, the page downplays or omits more significant criticisms about his inappropriate behavior, such as making sexist remarks, engaging in dangerous pranks, and disturbing content involving minors. This presents a skewed and incomplete view of his public persona, lacking a comprehensive assessment of the ethical concerns surrounding his content. Given the controversy-driven nature of his fame, it's important for Wikipedia to ensure such issues are adequately represented.

Given these points, I respectfully urge moderators to review the article in question and determine whether IShowSpeed meets the criteria for inclusion, especially in light of his controversial and harmful content. Unim1337 (talk) 16:56, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: This should be relocated to Articles for Deletion, which is Wikipedia's space for discussing the deletion of articles. Keep in mind, no matter how deplorable an individual's actions are, as long as they meet the notability guidelines for their category of pages, then they likely get an article (although exceptions always exist). — BerryForPerpetuity (talk) 18:21, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple issues template

[edit]

Just added a multiple issues template to this article of various problems I think it has, between its many poor sources (i.e: entertainment/hype/rumor-containing/exaggerated/celebrity gossip sources), the way it is written, and the excessive details on trivial, non-encyclopedic things IShowSpeed has done. It seems like a fan wrote the article (and that map is probably original research).

Let me know if that multiple issues template is excessive or if it accurately depicts this article's many problems!

Unsure if the article warrants deletion, just needs massive cleanup. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 16:18, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can't tell if it contains promotional content or not.
The article does at least do a decent job at portraying IShowSpeed's several controversies, but still seems like it is well below WP standards between sourcing, tone, and excessive detail on irrelevant things he has done.
Some examples are the Norway segment and the Miami speeding luxury car segment.
The sentence "...to prove his athleticism and silence skeptics who had previously doubted the authenticity of his car jump videos" shows clear bias and non-neutral tone.
I think the article can be saved, but needs a lot of work to get it up to WP standards. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 16:36, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think a conflict of interest is happening here. I think many of the editors of this page are simply Speed fans, which leads to bias/advocacy/promotion. Nothing wrong with being a fan, but it leads to a buildup of poor quality edits over time. I do believe he's notable given his online presence, but the right sources and tone have to be used and poor quality/non-notable/WP:CRYSTALBALL-type info needs to be removed.
General info: See AfD discussions for Speed's tours here and here. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 19:01, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to suggest that to start off dealing with the multiple issues, that the sourced paragraphs talking about him meeting various celebrities be removed. Celebrities meeting other celebrities isn't really notable in of itself, as that's just a normal part of being a huge influencer. But with the exception of the Christian Ronaldo paragraph (which is the only one that makes sense to keep up given Watkin's history with him), it seems someone already beat me to it. Zucat (talk) 19:39, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. There was/is too much "celebrity gossip" in this article. Watkins' controversies are important to cover, but Watkins meeting X person or going to X place really isn't important (though the tours are worth mentioning). Also, overly detailed paragraphs on what he did in places or what he did in certain streams is ridiculous. For instance, there was 5+ sentences of him getting injured/mobbed by a crowd in Norway, so I cut down majorly on that.
I guess him meeting the Albanian PM can be removed also. This article's getting there. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 21:26, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just removed Indian singer and Albanian PM. Kept Noah Lyles exhibition race. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 21:33, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Citation help

[edit]

To anyone that understands site design and wiki syntax better than me, I have a question.

On several citations in this article (particularly the beginning), the following text appears:

This reference is defined in a template or other generated block, and for now can only be edited in source mode.

Is there any way to get the citations accessible through visual editing? Is there a wiki bot out there to free these references from their template? Given the dozens of sources in this format it would be tedious to do manually.

Also, I've noticed that multiple references are used multiple times, so to condense those into one reference would be good to do. I'm sure a wikibot out there exists for that, but not sure how to find one.

Figured I'd ask anyone more qualified than I am. Will make cleaning up this article much easier. Thanks!

Disregard...manually did it. KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 22:31, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Woah

[edit]

That's a lot of issues on this page. I don't know if it's the most issues in the history of this Wikipedia page. Bakhos2010 (talk) 11:51, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My initial reaction may have been a bit much, but the article did need a lot of cleanup (and still does). KnowledgeIsPower9281 (talk) 21:27, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

there is some misinformation i would like to fix Antony5050 (talk) 14:55, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: as you have not requested a specific change in the form "Please replace XXX with YYY" or "Please add ZZZ between PPP and QQQ".
More importantly, you have not cited reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article. - Arjayay (talk) 16:19, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
