Move proposal
[edit]Unless I'm missing something, there's no reason to have "sniper rifle" in the article title. Normally, I would just move the article to "IWI DAN .338" to correct this, however I believe the title should actually be "IWI Dan".
I say this because IWI capitalises the names of all of their firearms on their website, yet the article titles for the Uzi, Tavor, Negev, etc. ignore this (the ACE is an exception, as it was originally the "Galil ACE", so that one should be capitalised). It is also written "Dan" in the last paragraph on IWI's page for the Dan.
As for the ".338" bit, while the headings on the IWI page have it as part of the name ("DAN.338"), the body of the page has it separately, as a description, with a number of instances of "DAN" (or "Dan") not being followed by ".338". Thanks, RadiculousJ (talk) 22:18, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
Use by the SAS
[edit]I find the claim that the SAS uses the Dan a dubious one for a couple of reasons. First, the source given only says that they're testing it, and second, I hardly think that the Daily Star is a reliable source on this subject matter. If anyone does have a reliable source, please say so, else the claim will be removed. Thanks, RadiculousJ (talk) 22:18, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
- The Daily Star is now deprecated per WP:DAILYSTAR, and all sources claiming that the SAS uses the Dan can be traced back to the Daily Star. I agree with RadiculousJ's statement that unless anyone can provide a reliable source, this claim will be removed. Ckfasdf (talk) 12:07, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
Name Change Proposal
[edit]I suggest to change the article title from 'IWI Dan' to 'IWI Dan 338'.
Reason: that's how it's marketed in the manufacturer website here and here. IdanST (talk) 10:47, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Please see the #Move proposal section above, and continue discussion there. Ckfasdf (talk) 13:19, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's 7 years old. IdanST (talk) 13:41, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Doesn't matter, his concern is still valid, and he also still active on WP. Ckfasdf (talk) 13:47, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- But it's 7 years old, and the title was already changed based on his suggestion, from 'IWI Dan Sniper Rifle' to 'IWI Dan'. IdanST (talk) 14:21, 23 November 2024 (UTC)

- Without sounding rude, the proposed move seems to me like moving it for moving its sake, as I don't think it will make the article any easier to find, and as I basically stated in my own move proposal seven years ago, given that IWI's website variously refers to it as the "DAN.338", "DAN .338", "DAN" and "Dan", I would say that the current title is the one that is simplest, whilst still being accurate. Also, may I suggest formally adding your proposal to WP:RM if you still feel it should be moved. RadiculousJ (talk) 19:38, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well, 'IWI' is a title given to weapons made by IWI. They refer to it as 'Dan 338' in some places and 'Dan .338' in others. That's why I believe renaming it to 'IWI Dan 338' would be appropriate. IdanST (talk) 20:35, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- And it's even stated in Template:IMI IWI smallarms IdanST (talk) 20:36, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Not quite sure what you mean by the first bit, I'm not saying that the IWI part should be removed. I can't say that I see what difference it makes to have "338" or ".338" added. And it's quite easy for what is written on a template to be wrong. RadiculousJ (talk) 02:04, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
