[edit]The dates for Ax transitioning from academia to commodities forecasting are a bit off. I matriculated at Stony Brook (then, the State University of New York at Stoney Brook) in Sept 79; attended Ax's seminar in Transcendental Number Theory there, when he explained missing a class by having to collect side bets at a weekend backgammon tournament in Las Vegas (he was an avid backgammon player); then was in his office when he spoke on the phone with Simon mentioning that he had some money to invest. In the Summer of 81 (when I got my masters) I couldn't find him in his office, and was sent to Monemetrics, the commpany Simon founded across the street in town, where Ax gave me a summer job. So "left Stony Brook in 77" would be inaccurate (if he did, he was back by 79). The evidence would be in the reords at the math department. Pete St.John (talk) 21:29, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
The timing of founding of Axcom, merger with RT, and name Medallion Fund disagrees with other sources, for instance http://math.berkeley.edu/~berlek/bus.html. Crasshopper (talk) 21:25, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
