Personal information

[edit]

On 01:33, 30 April 2008 Historys (Talk) deleted the names of John Schumann's wife and his brother-in-law. Adding in the Edit summary: (→Personal life: personal information not for public disclosure incorrect).

I dispute this claim and have reverted the edit, my reasons are as follows:

  1. Both names are pivotal to John Schumann's most famous song I Was Only Nineteen with Denny mentioned in the first verse and the whole song sung from Mick Storen's point of view. Hence the names are notable in their own right: they provide context for the song from within Schumann's personal life.
  2. John Schumann's Official website gives both names. He describes in great detail how he came to write the song. It is a public area of the Internet.
  3. Numerous articles in newspapers, on websites and in books refer to either or both names. Interviews of Schumann (including written, audio & video) mention the names. Some of these are refs for the John Schumann article or for "I Was Only Nineteen". All such sources are public knowledge: the names have been publicly disclosed for years (decades?).
  4. There may be an error in spelling either/both names: I've seen Deny, Deni but more commonly Denny for Denise (which may also be spelt wrong); I've seen Storan but Storen more commonly and Mick or Michael seems universal. The article prefers the more commonly used forms. If there is any error in spelling it should be corrected and referenced: not deleted.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:14, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Updated information.
Point 2: Schumann's description from his Official website is available in full at I WAS ONLY 19 THE JOHN SCHUMANN STORY as a downloadable pdf file.
Point 4: Schumann spells Mick Storen and Denny.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:36, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent deletions

[edit]

From 23:44, 23 June 2008 to 00:30, 24 June 2008 User:Maegraith (talk | contribs) made some 12 edits to this article which deleted some of the same material that is discussed above. The same editor also deleted the above discussion without any explanation. I have re-checked the links to Mr. Schumann's own Official website and the relevant contents have not been removed nor modified. Likewise numerous other references cited within the article refer to the names discussed above and so the information is in the public domain and as indicated above an article about Mr Schumann on wikipedia should contain this information due to its relevance to his most famous song.

Other material, also referenced, was deleted without any explanation. Consequently I have reverted both the discussion above and the content of the article back to my last safe edit.Shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:40, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

minor speech disability

[edit]

I have noticed that Schumann has an interesting speech disability/disorder when speaking (as opposed to singing), in that he "draws" some syllables to "over lengthen" them, intermittently but noticeably. I don't know the technical name for this disorder, which I have heard in other people's speech, some of them public figures like this one .I mention it here, as it is an ironic feature for a singer, and I wonder if it is a neurological phenomenon, in which case it might be worth comment- and linking to the WP page that explains the nature of the phenomenon, and perhaps how it distinguishes between speech and singing ( as some other neurological speech disorders do ). Reversion of August 2019 edit

[edit]

On 15 August 2019, User:Schujohn edited the article. See here with an Edit summary, Some insertions, deletions, and amendments in the interests of accuracy. Given the user's name and its similarity to the subject there is a possibility of a conflict of interest. I reverted that edit and ask User:Schujohn to discuss the issues at this talkpage.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 10:10, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
