What counts as a character

abcdefabcdefabcdefabcdefabcdefabc crypto is short for cryptography.

Are you sure the spaces should be used? shouldn't they be discarded?

It should be obvious that the only relevant symbols are the set actually involved in the encryption algorithm itself. For classical ciphers, this consists only of letters of the alphabet, although for formatting purposes spaces and newlines might be used when displaying the text. —DAGwyn (talk) 21:09, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
