{{WP India}} with Jharkhand workgroup parameters was added to this article talk page because the article falls under Category:Jharkhand or one of its subcategories. Should you feel this addition is inappropriate , please undo my changes and update/remove the irrelavent categories to the article -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 10:52, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Shikharji Save Shikharji protests
[edit]Save Shikharji is a serious movement started by Jain community against the government of Jharkhand. Jains believe that entire Shikharji Hill is a place of worship but Govt. is not ready to accept this belief. Govt. is putting aside the fact that scriptural belief for the respective community is not challengeable. My intention is to highlight the ongoing struggle with facts, its not a propaganda. Do you think rewording the paragraph to sound more factual would help or should i create a new wikiPage for saveShikharji (its a newbie confusion) Veerals (talk) 02:06, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Veerals:, Wikipedia articles are not appropriate place for any social or political movements.. please read WP:NOTNP.. please also read WP:NOR and WP:NPOV.. these guidelines will help you better understand how Wikipedia works... However, you are free to create a new page for this topic if it meets notability guidelines... Best --Adamstraw99 (talk) 08:28, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Adamstraw99:, Thanks for the guidance. Will try to publish a fresh wikipage on the issue with neutral/unbiased view tone. Best Veerals (talk) 10:46, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Veerals: Shikharji is very close to the place where i spent my childhood. could see it everyday. :D . I saw, your edits. basically you can add just protest information in the article, but please remember to use WP:NPOV and also use WP:RS such as mainstream newspapers and not blogs or Jain websites or religious publications. it will be good if you can first present your content in the talk page, and then make a WP:CONSENSUS among us and then make that edit in the article. (Making a seperate article is not recommended unless the incident is extremely popular and has got widespread mention in national media. ) let me know if any more Questions.
- so please continue the discussion here. regards. --DBigXrayᗙ 12:07, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- @DBigXray: Hey thanks so much. will start the conversation here and get to the consensus. Appreciate your comments. Veerals (talk) 05:06, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- @DBigXray: Putting the new section for your review.
- Veerals, please see WP:INDENT and follow it. Thanks a lot for sharing the sources, These newspapers are really good sources to improve the article Sikharji and the Parasnath article as well. I would not suggest to use the last Gujarati article, as I am not sure if it is reliable. your proposed paragraph looks good as well. consider seperating it into 2 sections. one about infrastructure improvements (related to tourism and Combating naxalism) and plans of the state gov on Sikharjee, and then add another para related to protests. as always, we have to take care about WP:NPOV the content should not look anti-naxal, or anti-government or anti-Jain or pro-Jain but just neutral facts. cheers and regards. --DBigXrayᗙ 13:26, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- DBigXray I understand your point of view. We can add a section as infra improvements so that we dont sound anti-government or pro-naxal. its quite reasonable. Veerals (talk) 05:28, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Save Shikharji protests
[edit]In 2014-15, government of Jharkhand released a notification to promote Shikharji (Parasanth hills) as a Tourism Hotspot[1]. Later local authorities also built helipad and military barracks on the hill[2][3]. Widespread protests by the Jain community were reported against these developments.[4][5] [6]The Jain community has started 'Save Shikharji' movement, with a demand to the government of Jharkhand to declare Shikharji as a Place of worship and stop the commercialization of the sacred hill.[7] Veerals (talk) 10:43, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Shikharji Movement
[edit]Hi, I acted boldly and restored a section about this on the article. Our policies make it perfectly clear that an article on the mainspace should fairly represent all significant viewpoints that has been published by WP:RS in a proportionate format. This topic has been now well covered in English as well as local news outlets making it significant enough to have a proportionate section about it. It previously sounded promotional which I have fixed, I encourage any other editor that makes any significant change on the article should keep it neutral and encyclopaedic. Jim Carter 19:43, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Jim Carter: Appreciate your intervention. The protests have been widely reported in the national and prominent dailies. [1] [2][3]

- Veerals I have removed the refs that did not add any new information. per WP:OVERCITE. What about the section above that you were developing ? --DBigXrayᗙ 07:48, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- DBigXRay The new section already mentioned about the infrastructure improvement part. So I resisted in adding a new section just to repeat that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Veerals (talk • contribs) 11:14, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Length of the track
[edit]I think there is a dispute regarding length of the track. It varies according to sources. I have removed all mentions until clear figure emerge.-Nizil (talk) 05:50, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- From lede without any reference:
Its distance to cover is 44 km by walk and takes approximately to climb up and down the hill. If a short route is taken it takes approximately 12 hours to complete.
- From Approach section without reference:
There is an option for parikrama of the entire Parasnath Hill, a pilgrimage of 54 kilometres (34 mi). The parikrama path is through the forest and is walking only.[citation needed]
- I think it is about parikrama round the hill but added here to make sense of different distances.-Nizil (talk) 05:58, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
The pilgrimage to Shikharji is a round trip of 27 km through the Madhuban forest.
[1]- Shekhar damle changed above sentence to
The pilgrimage to Shikharji is a round trip of 19 km with an elevation gain/loss of 1400m (7 kms up, 4.5 kms on top and 7.5 kms down) through the Madhuban forest.
He stated in edit summary: "I have measured the distance using both Strava and Wikiloc on Sunday 21st February 2021, then downloaded Wikiloc trail and curated it on Google Earth to remove kinks to the extent reasonably possible. The result is as follows: Total distance is 19 kms from entry gate to entry gate with 1400m elevation gain/loss (as against reported 27 kms), uphill till first set of Tonks on ridge is 7 kms, the ridge top trail till Parasnath Mandir is 4.5 kms and return downhill trail is 7.5 kms." and in another summary "Provided Wikiloc and Strava trail links in support of distance & elevation gain/loss edits."
