Urban locality? Town?

[edit]

Is there some objective basis for dividing settlements within the Sunshine Coast into "urban localities" and "towns"? I find it quite strange that Caloundra, Coolum Beach, Kawana, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach and Tewantin are classed as "urban localities" while "Buderim, Boreen Point, Cooran, Cooroy, Kin Kin, Eumundi, Maleny, Nambour, Peregian Beach and Pomona" are classed as "towns". Granted there is a difference of sorts between the run-on strip of urbanisation up the coast and the discrete entities in the hinterland, I wonder whether this difference is best captured by the terms "urban locality" and "town".

In addition, small towns like Beerwah, Glasshouse Mountains, Landsborough, etc. are missing from the list of towns -- too small maybe?

Last question first: the exclusion is probably just an oversight, I don't see much science in any basis for inclusion and if you wish to I don't see a problem in adding them. Back to the first question, while the Queensland project makes its own rules, in my part of the world a similar distinction has been made at Template:Wagga Wagga City for what it is worth. -- Mattinbgn\talk 01:17, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
