[edit]A great deal of work still needs to be done on this article. In addition, I would suggest moving the second half of the article into a new article titled, "Yíxīng Zǐshā Factory Number 1".
- I wouldn't. That information struck me as being rather hard to verify, possibly maybe even non-notable, and hopelessly advertisy. --maru (talk) contribs 04:53, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Since Yixing clay doesn't limit to teapot making, I would rather to have a whole new section for Yixing Clay Teapot. Even "Yíxīng Zǐshā Factory Number 1" can be move in there. Just move the whole section of the teapot and put the link in this article.--Sltan 18:16, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Just created Yixing clay teapot. I just copy and paste the teapot section from this page. Will add the mineral composition of Yixing clays and move the teapot section out from this article.

In regards to yixing teapots and green teas- Yixing teapots were originally used with green tea, and still normally are. Any delicate green tea will over brew if brewed in boiling water, regardless of the teapot used, the temperature of the water should be adjusted (typically 70 degrees C) before being added to the teapot. Also the teapot should be completely drained as soon as the brewing period is finished (unless there is a removable basket, in which case this should be removed), making the teapots heat retentive properties largely obsolete, the value of a yixing teapot is in its ability to 'season' as it takes up the sent of the tea, as such it should only be used with one type of tea, and never washed using detergents.
- I disupte the above. In practice Yixing teapots are normally used for Wulong tea; Porcelain teapots are normally used for green tea.217.42.13.36 (talk) 12:39, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Meaning of yixing
[edit]Needed: meaning in Chinese of the term yixing. Badagnani 05:26, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I think it's just a name. A literal meaning of "yixing" means something like "thriving well", which does not really lend any real information IMHO Sjschen 05:34, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- In mandarin, Yixing can be splitted into two words, Yi means suitable, Xing carried a few meaning : happy, growing, thriving. --Sltan 18:16, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's the name of a town, that's all.217.42.13.36 (talk) 12:36, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Yixing clay → Yixing ware – The article is mainly about the pottery, not about the clay it's made from. Also for consistency with other articles in Category:Chinese pottery. Zanhe (talk) 01:01, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
- Support What about Yixing teapot maybe - that's what the wares mostly are. Johnbod (talk) 02:05, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Johnbod: I forgot about that article, maybe they should be merged? The other article is mostly unsourced and has little useful content. You've done tons of work on Chinese ceramics, I'll defer to your judgment on this. -Zanhe (talk) 19:26, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
- Support. The topic of this article is clearly wider then the clay. Even if the foreshadowed merge takes place, this is a much better place for the resulting article. Andrewa (talk) 19:28, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
