Involvement in scandal

[edit]

@Rainbowed-Sunned-Spirit: I have removed your addition as a violation of WP:BLP. None of the four cited sources make any mention of You, let alone confirm her involvement. Until we get explicit confirmation, saying that she did something like this is a clear-cut BLP violation. Please provide better sourcing, or this will have to stay out of the article. At best, her involvement is only a rumor, but we cannot even add the existence of the rumor to the article since I have not seen reliable sources covering the rumor (WP:NOTGOSSIP). One of my sources, a Korean news video on YouTube, clearly shows presents You as the one who did those actions (her performing in her skating costume from last season albeit with a blurred face) and she was the only other adult female at the training camp apart from Haein and the news said that the skater that took the pictures was an adult female. So it was quite obviously her, but I respect your decision. Rainbowed-Sunned-Spirit (talk) 08:31, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do apologize if for the violation. That wasn't my intention. I thought the Korean sources I used were adequate enough. I apologize for the incontinence. It is always my goal to publish and edit figure skating Wikipedia pages in a manner that is factual and accurate. Rainbowed-Sunned-Spirit (talk) 08:34, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A translation of that video's autotranscription does not support that. Merely showing a video of Young, even if not redacted, does nothing to support this claim. I concede that maybe it was lost in translation, but by blurring her face, the source is explicitly declining to make the claim that You was involved (for all the general public knows, it could be someone else who copied You's costume, especially as the elements shown in the clip are nothing crazy). Remember, with a BLP, you must be very cautious with what you add. A WP:SYNTH-y claim from a single YouTube video is not enough in this case. Allegations like this in particular can be career-ending.
Skating is one of those sports with very limited media coverage, so I understand why you did that, but in this case you also cited three other sources which didn't support this claim at all, only the story of Lee. At the least, do not cite sources for statements they do not back up.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:46, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While there were plenty of sources who identified Lee, I couldn’t find any that confirmed You. Therefore, Jasper Deng is correct that no mention should be made aside from the fact that she has been suspended. Bgsu98 (Talk) 13:25, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bgsu98: Do we even have reliable sources saying she's suspended? --Jasper Deng (talk) 16:13, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
