Achuthsankar S. Nair

Achuthsankar S. Nair (born July 14, 1963)is an eminent Indian scientist known for his contributions in interdisciplinary area of scientific research. He is an influential teacher honored by the “INSA BestTeacher Award 2012”.He is the recipient of Young Scientist Award of Govt. of Kerala (1991), Cambridge Barclay Scholarship (1991), ISTE National Award for Young Engineering Teachers (1994). He is also anardent musician and a consistent green activist. Currently he is the Head of the Department of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics in University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, India.

After completing his B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram and M. Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay, he pursued hisM.Phil(Computer Speech and Language Processing) from the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK. His PhD is from University of Kerala. He is about to finish his second PhD in music.

Research Interests

His current areas of research include Genomic/Proteomic Signal Processing, DNA compression and Chaos Game Representation of Bio-sequences. Digital image processing is another area where he has several publications.
